Special Education Vocational Teacher Job at Whitney Academy Inc.
The Whitney Academy, Inc. is a residential treatment center. We serve adolescent boys, ages 10 to 22 who present with cognitive delays and a spectrum of behavioral problems. These problems include psychiatric diagnoses, sexualized and trauma reactive behaviors.
Our mission is to provide education, residential and treatment environments that are as “normal” as possible given the needs of the students we serve. As a Special Education Teacher, you will provide classroom instruction and lesson planning to students performing below grade level in a six-student, self-contained classroom. Other requirements include excellent interpersonal, organization and communication skills, and ability to collaborate with other members of the interdisciplinary team.
Vocational Instructor (8:00am-4:00pm)
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Design and implement activities, which assist students in acquisition of pre-vocational and vocational skills.
- Utilize experiential/hands-on approach to learning
- Administer Vocational Aptitude tests and Interest Inventories with students
- Collaborate with Special Education Teachers
- Utilize classroom management techniques that support learning, safety, accountability, and visual monitoring of assigned students.
Requirements include:
- Special education Certification (grades 5-12) and Master’s degree required, or in process
- RMV, CORI, and DCF checks are required
- 225-day school year
