JOB TITLE: Shift Supervisor, Specimen Management

DEPARTMENT: Laboratory

REPORTS TO: Director, Specimen Management

COMPLEXITY: High Complexity / Testing Personnel

EXPOSURE: Category 1 - Employees in category 1 positions perform tasks that routinely involve exposure or potential exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues.

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

LOCATION: Dallas, TX

POSITION SUMMARY The Shift Supervisor in Specimen Management is responsible for the management, implementation, and support of accessioning, sendout, data entry and cytology processing teams. This individual works closely with laboratory leaders as directed by the Regional Director of Phlebotomy Services. Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with multiple cross-functioning teams will be essential.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Follows laboratory procedures for specimen management.
  • Required to perform accessioning, send-out, data entry and/or cytology processing tasks daily
  • Directly supervise accessioning, sendout, data entry and cytology processing teams.
  • Oversees day-to-day operations within span of control
  • Assesses and monitors workload of staff and implements scheduling modifications as needed
  • Serves as an escalation point for staff as needed
  • Master trainer
  • Manage and adjust workflow, processes and staffing
  • Manage competencies and provide documentation for annual evaluations
  • Report monthly metrics
  • Monitor timecard entries
  • Select candidates, interview and make recommendations to fill personnel vacancies
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS Education / Certifications:

  • Associate degree

Experience / Abilities:

  • 3 or more years of applicable work experience
  • Leadership experience
  • Ability to translate regulatory, business environment and technical understanding to action plans and create resolutions
  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong computer literacy required
  • Demonstrated ability to work with large amounts of data, including diligent checks for accuracy
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Must be analyzed for color perception

TRAVEL AND HOURS

  • Limited travel is required with this position (less than10%)
  • Monday - Friday / (7:00am - 3:30pm)
