Job Summary
Under the direction of the Street Supervisor, performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled duties related to the maintenance, construction, and repair of streets, roadways, alleys, ditches, dikes, and other public works facilities and/or projects. This position is FLSA non-exempt. Job Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Street Supervisor, performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled duties related to the maintenance, construction, and repair of streets, roadways, alleys, ditches, dikes, and other public works facilities and/or projects.

A. Operates light vehicles and trucks up to 2 1/2; tons, light tractors, and other equipment incidental to the work.

B. Installs signs.

C. Assists the shop mechanic in the repair of equipment and vehicles.

D. Paints as necessary.

E. Performs building and facilities maintenance.

F. Patches pot holes, crack fills, and operates jackhammers as necessary.

G. Plows snow, salts and sands streets.

H. Drives paint machine and paints parking stalls, crosswalks, and school crossings.

I. Mows with hand or power mowers.

J. Forms and pours concrete.

K. Responds to after-hours emergencies.

L. Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Qualifications
A. Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

B. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with governing body, city administrators, department heads, employees and the public.

C. Ability to use sound judgment and common sense, think logically, and make appropriate decisions.

D. Displays knowledge of the mechanical operation of diesel and gas-powered equipment.

E. Follows all necessary safety guidelines in the operation of equipment.

F. Ability to maintain and make minor repairs to equipment.

G. Ability to perform heavy manual labor.

H. Valid Kansas Class B Commercial Driver"s license required, with tanker and air brake endorsements.
Education/Experience
Education - Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Some experience in construction and maintenance work, including some experience in the operation of medium and specialized equipment is preferred. Working Conditions
Work is primarily outside. Work is occasionally heavy and may involve physical activity such as lifting, pulling, pushing, carrying, and involves handling, seeing, hearing, listening, and talking. May involve after-hour calls and exposure to noise, noxious odors, gases, poor ventilation, and exposure to extreme weather conditions. Additional Information
