Employment & Training Worker II: $22.07 - $26.93 Hourly, $45,905.60 - $56,014.40 Annually
Under immediate supervision, performs employability evaluations and provides other employability services to eligible participants to assist them in achieving self-sufficient employment through consultation, guidance and career planning in one or more employment assistance programs in accordance with established procedures; and performs related work as required.
Employment & Training Worker I: This is a trainee class. It differs from Employment & Training Worker II in that incumbents in the Employment & Training Worker I class receive close supervision; as experience is gained, incumbents are assigned selected caseloads where the consequence of error is minimal. As assigned responsibility and breadth of knowledge increase, incumbents may reasonably expect to be promoted to the next higher class of Employment & Training Worker II.
Employment & Training Worker II: This is the experienced level class of this series. Positions in this class differ from Employment & Training Worker I in that the latter is a training level where emphasis is on learning principles, practices and methods of client employability assessment and placement and carrying of a limited, non-complex caseload under close supervision. Incumbents at the II level work with greater independence, perform a wider range of duties and have more responsibility for contact with employers and other services.
Under close supervision, determines participants' need for supportive services; conducts less difficult interviews with participants to evaluate their employment readiness; administers, scores and interprets vocational and educational measurement tests; identifies barriers to employment; develops employability plans; refers participants to appropriate employment, training and social services resources; provides labor market information and career guidance; conducts job search workshops; develops and maintains employment and training opportunities; makes appropriate worksite placements; monitors training and worksite arrangements; monitors participant compliance with program requirements; interprets rules, regulations and policies pertaining to employment programs to clients, service providers and the general public when within the scope of assigned responsibility; assists clients in developing good work habits; maintains records, reports and statistics of monthly activities; maintains liaison between clients, providers and employers; participates in coordination of case staffing with other agencies to ensure appropriate provision of services; reconciles, prepares and authorizes payment for supportive services; makes referrals to more experienced staff members when problems are beyond his/her level of competence; and performs related work as required.

Any combination of education and relevant experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge, skills and abilities would be:
LEVEL I
Education: Equivalent to completion of two years of college (60 semester units) with emphasis in career planning, vocational counseling, sociology, human resources management, or closely related fields. (Substitution: Qualifying experience in a social services agency performing duties equivalent to Eligibility Worker II, or experience in interviewing/counseling for employment, or experience in placement or vocational guidance may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.)
Experience: Successful completion of the probationary period performing duties equivalent to an Eligibility Worker in Kings County or a comparable county social services agency or job training department; OR, one year of experience in interviewing or counseling for employment, placement or vocational guidance.
LEVEL II
Education: Same as level I
Experience: Successful completion of the probationary period performing duties equivalent to Employment & Training Worker I in Kings County; OR,
Two years of experience as an Eligibility Worker II in Kings County or a comparable county social services agency or job training department; OR,
Two years of experience in interviewing or counseling for employment, placement or vocational guidance.
BOTH LEVELS
Special Requirements: Requires frequent travel; appointee must possess and maintain a valid California's driver's license or be capable of providing one's own transportation. Certain positions in this classification may be designated as bilingual, requiring fluency in a foreign language. Certain positions in this classification may be required to rotate assignments between the agency's central location in Hanford and outlying sites, as assigned.
Desirable Qualification: Computer experience or training preferred.
