The Opportunity: Senior Data Analyst

Why This Role Is Important

Critical to the success of Mass General Brigham Integrated Care is our ability to analyze, understand and provide insights across the organization to support effective decision-making. To that end MGB Integrated Care is seeking a critical, collaborative thinker with a strong analytical background to fill the role of a Sr. Data Analyst. The Senior Data Analyst will report to the Sr. Manager of Performance Management within the Integrated Care Start-up and Planning team. Additionally, the Senior Data Analyst will be embedded within the Enterprise Data and Analytics scrum team dedicated to Integrated Care.

What You’ll Work On

The Senior Data Analyst will be primarily accountable for:

  • Designing reports, identifying trends, and generating insights for stakeholders
  • Lead or participate in multiple projects by completing and updating project documentation; managing project scope; adjusting schedules when necessary; determining daily priorities; ensuring efficient and on-time delivery of project tasks and milestones; following proper escalation paths; and managing stakeholder relationships
  • Collaborate with Enterprise Analytics scrum team by providing analytic support (product manager, data architects, data engineers, Tableau developers, and scrum masters) as required by each project
  • Developing metrics, analyzing, and interpreting data, and validating products
  • Work independently, assume responsibility for timeline, research and resolve questions and problems, request supervisor input, and keep supervisor informed as appropriate
  • Provide leadership to junior team members by collaborating and helping them articulate their ideas and viewpoints to senior management, peers and others; help them identify and initiate projects
  • Completing ad hoc data requests in support of Integrated Care operations

In addition:

  • Work with a variety of tools (e.g., SQL, Excel, Tableau, etc.) to access data, write queries, develop programming logic, create dashboards, and conduct statistical analysis
  • Work with multiple sources of healthcare data (e.g., claims, financial, and clinical data) to meet both reporting requirements and support new initiatives
  • Retrieve, organize, and manipulate data from Epic Clarity, the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW), and other databases. This will require basic programming to prepare data for reporting and analysis
  • Complete thorough quality assurance procedures ensuring accuracy, reliability, trustworthiness, and validity of work
  • Support the development, modification, and validation of new and existing data sources and data tables
  • Present analytical findings in a variety of formats (reports, PowerPoint, graphs, figures, tables), formulate conclusions and recommendations, and effectively communicate results to non-analytic audiences.
  • Working with programmers, engineers, and management heads to identify process improvement opportunities, propose system modifications, and devise data governance strategies.

About You

  • BS/BA required. Master’s degree in healthcare or related technical fields, e.g., public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, or health services research preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in data analytics; healthcare experience is required
  • Strong programming skills in SQL and proficient in other programming languages (e.g., SAS, R, and Python)

Preferred Experience We Hope You Have

  • Experience with clinical data (e.g., Epic) and financial data strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis and multivariate modeling preferred
  • Strong understanding of data structure/integration and relational database design
  • Experience with data analysis and reporting, and working knowledge of data visualization (Tableau or Power BI) software is preferred
  • Practical problem-solving abilities, i.e. the ability to formulate hypotheses, test options and move forward in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, set priorities, and collaborate with team members and others throughout the organization
  • Ability to work with multiple stakeholders with competing priorities.
  • Able to quickly adapt and learn in an ever-changing technical, contractual, and regulatory environment.
  • Great communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including strong customer service orientation.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Self-motivated, resourceful, and able to take initiative
