POSITION: Senior Accountant (Full Time Regular)

LOCATION: Corporate Office – Gardena, CA

DUTIES: The Senior Accountant oversees the day-to-day operations of the Accounting Department, prepares financial statements, analyzes revenues and participates in financial planning processes. Other duties include coordination of data processing and MIS requirements for the Accounting Department.

Following is a general listing of the job duties inherent in this position. The employee will also perform other tasks and special projects as assigned or required.

· Performs or delegates the responsibilities in this job description as appropriate. Coordinates and oversees activities of the Accounting Department. Directly supervises one or more employees.

· Oversees the day-to-day operations of the Accounting Department, which consists of AP, Payroll, Billing, and Accounts Receivable functions and reports directly to the CFO

· Has primary responsibility to prepare financial statements and supporting schedules according to monthly close requirements.

· Facilitates and completes monthly close procedures.

· Analyzes revenues and expenses to ensure they are recorded appropriately.

· Prepares monthly account reconciliations.

· Analyzes financial statements on a monthly basis and report on variances.

· Participates in all financial audits.

· Documents and monitors internal controls.

· Prepares year end cost reports.

· Prepares quarterly and annual OSHPD reports.

· Participates in the preparation of the operating budgets for the department and facilities; reviews and analyzes the budget performance and identified variances; ensures effective cost control.

· Analyze monthly variances between actual month end and year to date data vs. budgets.

· Participates in the preparation of annual budgets as well as budgets for contracts and proposals.

· Develops cost allocation models and formulas.

· Participates in the corporation’s long and short-term financial planning processes.

· Assists in the closing and distribution of financial reports.

· Participates in the billing process and prepares contract utilization reports.

· Participates in the development and communication of departmental goals and objectives as well as accounting control policies and systems, and addresses related policy/system issues.

· Provides advice and assistance to the agency, department managers and staff regarding accounting/financial matters.

· Provides advice and assistance to department heads and managers in analyzing and interpreting financial data and reports and in presenting that information to their departments.

· Ensures that accurate information is provided on a timely basis and assists as needed in facilitating efficient external audits, examinations, and related financial projects.

· Communicates well in writing and speaking with clients, staff, peers, supervisors and non-BHS resources. Makes effective presentations to groups of varying sizes both within BHS and in the community.

· Attends trainings as appropriate to fulfill requirements, update job skills, and promote development.

· Carries out safety program in assigned area to achieve and maintain a safe work area and safe work practices.

· Represents BHS well in all in-house and outside functions and contacts. Works as a team member. Maintains cultural sensitivity at all times, conveying respect for cultural and lifestyle diversities of clients and staff.

· Maintains familiarity with BHS policies and procedures and other applicable regulations. Performs job duties accordingly.

· Recognizes personal issues that impact job performance and interactions with clients and staff.

· Demonstrates ethical and professional behavior.

· Attends meetings and participates in committees as assigned.

· Performs other tasks and special projects as assigned or required.

QUALIFICATIONS: Following are the qualifications required to perform the essential functions of this position. Qualifications may be subject to modification based on the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with at least 5 years related experience. CPA preferred but not required.

· Experience in the not-for-profit sector preferred.

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a customer service focus

· Able to act and operate independently with minimal daily direction from CFO to accomplish objectives.

· Supervisory experience preferred.

· Proficiency with Outlook and Microsoft Office applications.

Able to stand, stoop, bend, squat and reach for purpose of performing job duties such as handling materials stocked on shelves, filing, lifting and assisting in emergency situations. Duties may require occasional use of stool or small ladder. Routinely lift and move items weighing up to ten pounds and occasionally up to twenty-five pounds; is expected to ask for assistance and use a dolly or cart for any heavy items. Able to move about the department. Vision, hearing, verbal communication skills, manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination must be adequate for performance of job duties. Able to sit at desk, use keyboard, mouse & touchpad, write, and physically perform other job duties.
