Job Title: Baler Operator

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY: The Baler Operator will oversee the scrap management system by operating a forklift, cart dumper, shredder, and all balers. They will collect and resupply Operators across the site with necessary scrap containers to support continuous operation of manufacturing equipment. Additionally, the Baler Operator will initially be responsible for Roll Mounting on the Web Cutter(s) until production requires a dedicated Baler Operator and Roll Mounter.
SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITY:
- Develop expertise on the different grades of paper and provide coaching to team members as needed in the event of mixture of board types
- Monitor the cart dumper/shredder as well as web cutter(s) to ensure scrap is properly routed to the correct baler in accordance with the board type for bale integrity and resale purposes
- Troubleshoot, clean, and support the maintenance of equipment within the Baler Room, escalating issues or concerns to Maintenance or the Production Supervisor as needed
- Stage and load bales onto the appropriate trailer based on board type and coordinate with the Scrap Sales Coordinator when ready for pickup
- Ensure documentation and data entry requirements are understood and completed including but not limited to scheduling, job tickets, bale data sheets and check off slips
- Stage and mount rolls on the web cutter(s), posting and confirming roll tickets for inventory tracking, and trimming damaged layers from the roll to ensure continuous operation
- Setup the roll stand in support of make ready, receiving proper setup approval before startup
- Properly return unused rolls into inventory; remove bad rolls from the area and complete necessary documentation
- Proactively communicate and collaborate with other shift Baler Operators, Cutter Operators, Gluer Operators, Production Supervisor, Mechanic, and other team members as needed
- Follow safety, 5S, quality, and BRCGS standards, ensuring a safe and clean work environment
- Support the development, implementation, and adherence to operating standards within the Training Program to ensure all standards are understood and being followed

- Flow to the work or need of the site with positivity, demonstrating a willingness to support additional roles to ensure continuous and safe operation
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have basic computer skills and possess the ability to utilize software. Must have mechanical skills.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must have the ability to read and understand documents, letters, etc. and write legibly in English. Must be able to understand and speak clearly, communicate, and understand directions in English as needed.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide both fractions and decimals, solve equations, read a tape measure, and have an understanding of both standard and metric measuring systems.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must become a certified powered industrial equipment operator in accordance with SCT training and carry a copy of your certification with you.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, regularly required to walk, stand, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls and reach with arms and hands. Frequently required to climb, balance, twist, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Frequently must lift/move 25 to 75 pounds, occasionally lifts 75 to 100 pounds. Must be able to perform these functions for a minimum of 12 hours straight (with a 30-minute meal break any other applicable breaks during the shift) on a regular basis. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a Team member successfully performing the essential functions of this job. Regular attendance and reporting for work on time are necessary requirements as is availability for overtime work if necessary.
