POSITION DESCRIPTION

· Full time, 40hrs week - 10 Month position (summers off).

· This position will be located in both Marcus Whitman and Naples Schools Districts.

· In this role, the person acts as a Prevention Education Specialist within the assigned districts.

· The School Based Prevention Educator provides delivery of evidenced-based and Council developed alcohol/drug abuse and dependency prevention education programs as well as presentations in a public format. These programs and presentations are consistent with the OASAS Prevention Guidelines and the Council mission and standards.

· The position allows for initiative and innovation in program development and delivery, under the guidance of the Ontario County Education Coordinator.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Required Minimum Education:

· 4-year degree in Elementary/ Secondary Education, Health Education, Chemical Dependency Counseling, Social Work, Counseling, or related field.

Required Experience:

· Minimum 1 year of experience teaching grades K-12.

· Minimum 1 year of experience working with youth, counseling, or human services, preferably with a background in alcohol/drug abuse prevention education.

Professional Licensure/Certification:

· Teaching certification, CASAC, CCP or other QHP preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

· Position requires the person to have an outgoing personality, be a creative collaborator, able to be flexibility with changes to programming and classes, excellent oral and written communication skills, experience in curriculum development, good organization skills and detail oriented.

· Have experience providing evidenced-based programming in a public setting.

· Have experience providing alcohol/drug and addiction related educational programming.

· Knowledge of the OASAS Prevention Guidelines.

FUNCTION 1.0:

The School Based Prevention Educator is responsible for general school-based education and developing and marketing programs targeting specialized groups such as at-risk populations, parents, and service groups on general and specific substance abuse issues.

1.2 The School Based Prevention Educator is responsible for delivering both Evidence Based and Council developed programs within school settings, this includes, but is not limited to, designing activity-oriented, age-appropriate lessons to assure maximal information sharing and learning for students.

1.3 The School Based Prevention Educator is responsible for helping to develop and deliver programs/trainings and in-service trainings for other school staff as needed.

1.4 The School Based Prevention Educator is responsible for an effective outreach initiative, including a literature distribution campaign at school functions where appropriate.

1.5 The School Based Prevention Educator is responsible for presenting with either a large group or small group format for prevention and educational series, including the provision of educational support groups as appropriate.

FUNCTION 2.0:

The School Based Prevention Educator is responsible for generating referrals of persons in need by networking and developing relationships with human service agencies, community groups, and appropriate school staff.

2.1 The School Based Prevention Educator is responsible for identification, motivational counseling, and referral to community agencies for individuals or family members experiencing difficulties with alcohol/drugs, including crisis intervention work when needed.

FUNCTION 3.0:

The School Based Prevention Educator is responsible for the provision of support services instrumental to the success of the programs and Council standards.

3.1 The School Based Prevention Educator may be required to network with other agencies and represent the Council at relevant human service coalitions and intra-agency functions.

3.2 The School Based Prevention Educator is responsible for working with the Ontario County Education Coordinator to formulate a county-wide plan of service delivery.

3.3 The School Based Prevention Educator is responsible for providing support for other staff for Council programs and events, such as the Red Ribbon Campaign, Safe Summer Campaign, Primer, etc., and serves overall as a part of the Council training team.

3.4 The School Based Prevention Educator is responsible for responding to individual requests for information or consultation on an as-needed basis, either in-person or by telephone.

3.5 The School Based Prevention Educator is responsible for the provision of additional duties and activities as assigned by the Executive Director, Director of Programming, and/or the Education Coordinator.

FUNCTION 4.0:

The School Based Prevention Educator is responsible for demonstrating institutional respect by following the intent and word of the policy manual, especially in relation to administrative concerns.

4.1 It is the responsibility of the Educator to complete all forms, reports and assignments as directed, and submit such in a timely fashion.

4.2 The School Based Prevention Educator will work a flexible schedule with occasional evenings and/or weekends, adhering to the standard work hours of the school Schedule which they are working in for that day.

4.3 The School Based Prevention Educator will be located within the School Building he/she is assigned to for that day.

4.5 The School Based Prevention Educator will know and subscribe to the Canon of Ethical Principles, promulgated by the NYS OASAS, as well as the NYS OASAS Prevention Guidelines.

4.6 The School Based Prevention Educator will attend and participate in all staff meetings, staff functions, and fundraisers.

4.7 The School-Based Prevention Educator will attend workshops, seminars, and conferences to further professional growth and development or as required by the Council.

$28,000.00 - $30,000.00 per year
