Roller Operator Job at Northern Improvement Company
Job purpose
The Asphalt Roller Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of equipment to compact earth, subgrade, and sub-base asphalt surfaces in the construction of highways and streets. Travel required 25% - 100% depending on the crew.
Duties and responsibilities
- Operate construction equipment in accordance with company procedures and safety regulations
- Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment
- Operate the equipment in the right direction and angles to prevent accidents and damage of property
- Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment, and lubricate, refill and clean equipment as necessary
- Understand material thickness, type of material being laid, and material temperature for determining rolling range
- Assist paving crew with hand rolling, manholes, and catch basins
- Operate equipment in various situations, maintaining proper awareness of one s surroundings
- Report the need for large repairs to appropriate parties
- All other duties as assigned, delegated, or necessary for operations
Qualifications
- Minimum one year of asphalt roller experience
- Experience on multiple pieces of construction equipment is preferred
- Possess a valid driver s license
- Ability to pass a pre-employment urine drug test and comply with drug and alcohol policies during employment
Working conditions
- Outdoor environment subject to changing conditions and temperatures
- Occasional exposures to fumes, dust, odors, heights, and loud noises
- May be required to work 50+ hours, 6 days a week
Physical requirements
- Verbal, auditory, and written capabilities to effectively communicate in an articulate manner
- Clarity of vision at varying distances to perform various work assignments
- Standing, walking or sitting for extended periods of time
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of specialized tools and equipment
- Reaching overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally
- Occasional bending, kneeling, or crouching
- Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling object(s) weighing up to 50 pounds
