RIGGING TECHNICIAN Job at Freeman Boatworks

Reporting to the Rigging Lead, this person is responsible for installation of wire harnesses, electronics, hardware, firmware and engines on premier offshore fishing catamarans. Requirements:Roles and Responsibilities:
- Use a variety of air, pneumatic and electric power tools to assemble customized electrical power and control systems.
- Cut, strip, splice, terminate and assemble wire harnesses
- Install hardware on a component board and inter-connect hardware with appropriate harnessing
- Install firmware and configuration files
- Complete test protocols to ensure proper operation and assembly quality.
- Set-up, adjust, and/or changeover equipment with appropriate tools common to the particular job
- Perform inspection common to the classification at required intervals
- Take appropriate action when out of tolerance situations occur and notify appropriate individuals when further action must be taken
- Install engines, missing parts, order changes, etc. on boats.
- Troubleshoot and repair issues on boats as well as rework as required.
- Actively participate in 5S Programming
- Maintain a clean and safe working area in accordance to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Work Rules, and Plant Safety Rules
- Work with engineering and quality to define and implement quality requirements
- Cross train into other functions within the QA/Rig group
- Order changes, finish inspection, shrink, seats and motors, test tank, etc.
- Utilize the Engineering Liaison as necessary to address design, drawings, etc.
- Commitment beyond standard work schedule
- Works with Rig Lead to ensure that quality criteria is followed and quality checks are completed appropriately using standardized work, job instruction (JI), and quality criteria.
- Performs additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.
- Move to the work. Cannot be tied to a single functional job (rigging) need to be versatile and move when there is a lack of rig boats.
Required and Preferred Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Ability to utilize basic tools, have mechanical aptitude
- Pass Mercury online training requirements
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills including ability to challenge team members/peers appropriately to follow standards.
- Exhibits a willingness to help others, eagerness to learn.
- Must be able to perform all essential functions of the position with or without accommodations.
- Experience in rigging or boat building or equivalent
- Mechanical skills
Work Environment and Physical requirements:
- Regularly required to work at heights on platforms, lifting parts and pieces up to 50 lbs, traveling up and down stairs on a constant basis, sitting, squatting and bending in various awkward positions for certain lengths of time - including working overhead, traveling in and out of work areas, walking and being on your feet for a majority of the workday. Exposed to noise, dust, fumes and odors on a daily basis. Physical exertion is required. Requires standing, bending and twisting for a 10-hour shift. Vision protection and closed-toed shoes are required. Hearing protection may be required.
