Care For the Homeless (CFH) is a growing not-for-profit health care and social service agency that serves the homeless population of New York City. CFH provides medical, podiatry, behavioral and oral health services through Article 28 health centers at shelters, soup kitchens, and drop-in centers throughout NYC and operates 2 transitional residences for homeless women, as well as advocating for policies to end homelessness.

CFH is seeking a Residential Program Aide for its Morris Avenue Men’s Shelter. The Morris Avenue Men’s Shelter operates under contract with the New York City Department of Homeless Services (DHS) and, as a contract agency, has reporting responsibilities to DHS and is subject to inspections and audits by DHS, the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance and the Coalition for the Homeless of New York City.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF A RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM AIDE:

  • Perform daily inspections of all resident units
  • Escort residents to appointments throughout NYC.
  • Respond to incidents
  • Perform hourly house runs to:
  • Resident areas are being maintained at all times
  • Ensure all staff is in their assigned locations
  • Monitor recreational rooms, laundry rooms and cafeteria to ensure all residents are adhering to schedules and are in proper locations
  • Assist in medication calls as required and in compliance with all rules and regulations.
  • Assist security team with daily operations
  • Train residents in daily living skills and assist with cleaning area, laundry, hygiene and etc.
  • Assist with intakes
  • Answer phones when necessary
  • Assist with all house operations
  • Assist with maintenance duties
  • Perform daily pack ups and logging of the property belonging to AWOL residents
  • Store and remove resident property from the client storage area
  • Maintain a clean and organized storage area
  • Relocate items and furniture as necessary
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Shift Supervisor
  • Attend and participate in all required agency meetings: staff meetings, house meetings, in-service training and weekly case review.
  • Escort clients to appointments such as Public Assistance, Social Security, and Medical etc.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS OF A RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM AIDE:

Educational and Experience requirements:

  • 1-year experience dealing with homeless or special needs population
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Comfortable working with others
