Definition of Class
The University of Mississippi's National Center for Physical Acoustics (NCPA) is seeking a Research Associate to assist in supporting research in applied acoustics. The successful candidate will have duties that include helping create long and short-range plans and objectives based on program cost, schedule, and technical requirements; aiding in identifying project opportunities, general requirements, and available resources; and helping prepare technical proposals and reports for sponsored programs. Additionally, this position involves the management of fiscal affairs of multiple sponsored projects; establishing and maintaining policies and procedures related to fiscal operations; ensuring compliance with University of Mississippi policies and procedures and funding agencies’ guidelines; serving as liaison to outside organizations such as government agencies, public companies, other universities, and the University’s departments.
To accomplish fiscal responsibilities, this position requires working closely with the NCPA Business Manager.
Job Responsibilities (examples of work performed and essential functions):
This position’s responsibilities are to support research for several research programs for NCPA’s Applied Acoustics group. This includes helping create long and short-range plans and objectives based on cost, schedule, and technical requirements; providing technical assistance and research support to identify opportunities, requirements, and available resources; and supporting preparation of technical proposals and reports for sponsored programs. Additionally, management of all fiscal affairs of sponsored projects is expected.
Minimum Qualifications (education and experience):
This position requires a bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, or mathematics. In addition, experience in technical project management is highly preferred but not required. Eligibility for obtaining a U.S. Security Clearance is desirable.
