This recruitment will be used to fill multiple part-time (maximum of 20 hours per week) undergraduate Research Assistant positions to support an interdisciplinary research team’s investigation in the area of post-consumer food waste and loss.
Position Duties
The undergraduate Research Assistant will conduct research activities in one or more of the following areas, depending on the applicant’s field of study and expertise.
- Data collection and analysis – perform an exhaustive literature search to identify all academic studies measuring food waste, document these measurements in a spreadsheet, organize and aggregate this data, and assist performing a meta-study analysis of these measurements.
- Manuscript preparation support – assist in the preparation of a journal article for publication by conducting literature reviews of post-consumer food waste measurements, aggregating and analyzing data, creating tables and figures, and proof-reading manuscript drafts.
- Research support – prepare and submit IRB and human subject study protocols and related documentation such as organizing study participants, consent forms, survey instructions, interview protocols, participant rewards, etc.

- Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
- Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
- Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
- High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
- Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
- Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
- Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
- Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*
- International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
- Undergraduate student in good academic standing
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong time management skills and ability to work independently
- Strong attention to detail and consistency when performing repetitive tasks
- Collaborative mentality and ability to work in a team environment
- Ability to read and synthesize academic literature
- Basic knowledge of introductory statistics
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Experience reading and synthesizing academic literature
- Experience organizing and cataloging data
- Experience with data entry (e.g. Excel)
- Proficiency with Python or C/C++
- Experience with embedded computers (e.g. Arduino)
- Experience using a citation management system (e.g., Zotero)
- Experience with survey generation (e.g., Qualtrics)
- Experience communicating with clients or customers
