Rehabilitation Technician 2 - Business Specialist

The Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) is looking for someone who is willing to assert themselves, contribute to their community, and help us on our mission to Transform Lives! The Business Specialist is a professional-level position that works in collaboration with local Workforce Development Councils (WDCs), WorkSource Center Business Services Teams, the DVR Business Specialist team, and DVR Statewide Business Relations Program Manager to expand and improve employment outcomes for individuals with disabilities.

The Business Specialist uses a dual customer approach and works to connect job seekers with disabilities to local/regional employers seeking their particular skills, competencies, education, and experience; The Business Specialist keeps current with local labor market trends and employment opportunities in both the private and public sectors and initiates and maintains strategic professional relationships with a variety of business and industry representatives and job placement/training agencies to promote the hiring of individuals with disabilities. The Business Specialist carries a caseload of customers assigned by a Vocational Rehabilitation Supervisor or designee who is in an active job search and establishes and maintains activities to develop, locate, and secure job openings for customers. The Business Specialist actively participates in local/regional career events and job fairs and leverages affiliations, memberships, and strategic partnerships to promote the success of job seekers with disabilities. The Business Specialist serves Kitsap, Clallam, and Jefferson County areas consisting of the Silverdale, Port Angeles, Port Townsend, and Bremerton WorkSource offices.


Some of what you'll do:

  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with public and private employers, employment advocates, business leaders, talent acquisition employer representatives, and social services partners
  • Serve as an active, strategic partner in the local WorkSource center business engagement team
  • Provide market-driven placement services and advanced individualized placement services to DVR customers
  • Assist each customer in effectively using the services and resources available
  • Document customer progress and track and report job placement activities and outcomes
  • Provide staff with current labor market information to support the development of in-demand job goals

What we're looking for:
  • Knowledge of employment and training state and federal laws, policies, rules, and regulations
  • Ability to prepare and develop materials and make presentations to various groups
  • Knowledge and understanding of multiple barriers to employment that apply to people with disabilities
  • Excellent communication skills with a variety of stakeholders
  • Knowledge of job search strategies and placement techniques

Who should apply?
Professionals with a bachelor's degree in business administration, public relations, marketing, communications, human resources, or a related field

OR

A Bachelor's degree with at least 18 quarter or 12 semester credit hours from the following courses: Marketing, Public Relations, Human Resources, Business Administration, Business Practices, Communications, Economics, Public Speaking, Leadership, Project Management, Small Business, Entrepreneurship, Employment Law, or Training and Development.

Direct customer services experience in a vocational rehabilitation program will substitute year-for-year for the bachelor’s degree, but not for the 18-quarter or 12-semester credit hours.
