Registered Dietitian RD/LD Job at Omni Manor Inc
This position is responsible for ensuring the patient nutrition and food service care systems meet our quality standards and are effective. Develops, implements and monitors the patient care progress and ensures that all federal, state and local regulations are in place.
This is a position that will require time being split between 2 of our homes
(Burton & O'Brien in Masury Ohio)
Staffing:
- Participates in the recruitment and selection of dietary staff, as requested.
- Ensures that dietary staff follow established policies and procedures.
- Meets with dietary personnel, as necessary, to assist in identifying and correcting problem areas and/or the improvement of services.
- Promotes positive employee relations by facilitating and atmosphere of open communication and problem-solving; identifies and resolves issues of employee dissatisfaction or conflict in an appropriate and timely manner, if able. If not, it is referred to the facility Administrator.
- One-on-one assists, as needed, in decision making regarding food service operations and clinical care; consults with Administrators, QA Coordinators and DON’s and keeps them informed as needed.
- Participates as a team member and assists other Nutrition Services Corporate staff as needed.
Training and Development:
- Attends and participates in continuing education programs to keep abreast of changes in field, as well as, to maintain registration and license.
- Attends and/or participates, with Dietary Department, the planning, coordinating and scheduling of timely education in-services as related to nutrition and food service.
- Works on improving current menus, for regular and therapeutic diets, updates recipe files in menu books and writes extensions as needed with assistance of Corporate Coordinator.
- Assists the Dietary Department transition between manual and computer when needed.
- Provides recipes for the cycle menus, for regular and therapeutic diets, updates recipe files in menu books and writes extensions as needed.
- Develops and conducts in-service training for nurses, nurse aides, physicians or allied health professionals in area related to diets, food and medical nutrition therapy as needed or requested; informally educates staff in the principles of nutritional assessment and care.
Service and Quality Management:
- Visits residents periodically to evaluate the quality of meals served, likes, dislikes, etc. Involves the resident/family in planning objective and goals for the resident.
- Ensures that food storage and preparation areas are maintained in a clean, safe and sanitary manner.
- Monitors dietary systems to ensure that control measures are in place, that menus are prepared as written and that the food is served in a timely manner.
- Assists the Quality Assurance committee in developing and implementing appropriate plans of action to improve areas that do not meet standards.
- Participates in surveys/inspections made by authorized government agencies.
- Assists in developing and implementing plans of correction for dietary service deficiencies noted during surveys.
- Assists in development of initial and routine comprehensive nutritional assessments of the nutritional needs of the resident.
- Meets with dietary personnel and solicits advice from interdepartmental supervisors concerning nutritional services, assists in identifying and correcting problem areas, and/or the improvement of services.
- Ensures that all nutrition progress notes charted by Dietary Services, are informative and descriptive of the services provided.
- Assists in the development, monitoring and revision of the resident’s comprehensive plan of care.
- Reviews interdisciplinary notes and all necessary documentation to determine if the care plan goals are realistic and obtainable.
- Provides diet instructions as needed.
- Assists in the Dietary Service portion of the resident’s discharge plan when needed.
- Audits medical records to correlate physicians orders, diet order slips and diet cards.
- Performs administrative duties such as completing and submitting necessary forms and reports, such as complete, acknowledge, update and co-sign all new admits, re-admits, significant changes, new open area, and areas that have worsened, high risk residents, yearly assessments and other “at risk” residents.
- Performs time studies for productivity and efficiency.
Financial Management:
- Reviews monthly accounting sheets and develops a plan to reduce costs if not within the budget.
- Reviews snack and supplement lists for unnecessary supplements in an effort to keep costs in line.
- Helps develop and monitor security procedures.
Safety and Sanitation:
- Demonstrates knowledge of emergency policies and procedures.
- Performs all duties in a safe and efficient manner, assures that safety regulations are followed at all times by all personnel.
- Reports all hazardous conditions/equipment and all accidents to the administrator and safety committee members.
Pre-survey Audits the Dietary Department by:
- Reviews policy and procedure.
- Reviews attendance at in-service records of Dietary personnel.
- Monitors staffing changes.
- Reviews Quality of Life issues.
- Makes sanitation rounds of Dietary Department areas.
- Observes meal preparation.
- Does menu review for nutritional adequacy.
- Monitors practice of infection control procedures.
- Checks equipment and makes suggestions.
- Does chart audits.
- Initial assessment.
- Dietary progress notes.
- Comprehensive care plans.
- Discharge plan.
- Evaluates technicians’ and supervisors’ capabilities concerning clinical aspects.
Other:
- Responsible to know the Facility Policies and Procedures and be able to communicate and interpret to staff.
- Does all things necessary for the resident’s health, safety and welfare.
- Participates as a team member and assists other Nutrition Services Corporate staff as needed.
- Must consistently demonstrate a positive attitude and behaviors, while contributing to the overall success of the company.
- All other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualified applicant must be an RD/LD with experience in long term care preferred. Must be computer literate.
