Description: The Ready-Mix Equipment Technician is responsible for the Installation, maintenance, and repair of, equipment, physical structures, pipe, and electrical systems for Knight’s Redi-Mix plants, as well as diesel and non-diesel vehicles. This position will provide guidance and assistance to diesel technicians and the plant maintenance team, ensuring a clean, safe, environmentally compliant, and efficient operation.
Essential Functions:
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on ready-mix concrete plants, equipment and other plant-related structures as needed to ensure maximum up-time
o Troubleshoot electrical issues as needed
o Coordinate with Plant Maintenance Manager, Fabrication shop, and/or Construction Manager as needed to troubleshoot complex issues
- Diagnose and repair minor to mid-level electrical issues of equipment lights, switches, etc. on affected trucks and equipment
- Diagnose and repair minor to mid-level mechanical issues on affected trucks and equipment
- Test power and hydraulic systems to ensure operation per manufacturer specifications
- Diagnose and repair major electrical systems (12 and 24 volt)
- Perform service calls to diagnose and repair off-site trucks and equipment using company service vehicle
o Return affected vehicles or equipment to service as efficiently as possible, while ensuring accurate repairs have been made
o Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the company service vehicle
o Ensure that all tools and equipment are returned to the proper location in the company service vehicle
- Perform routine maintenance on equipment and vehicles, including but not limited to part replacement/ tire changes, hub assemblies, seals on steer and drive axles, oil and filter services, lubrication and greasing of all wear items, air and hydraulic brake systems, and pressurized water systems
- Identify replacement parts and supplies as needed to ensure successful plant operation; follow Accounting procedures for procurement, and coordinate with Purchasing and Plant Maintenance Manager to request parts and supplies
- Communicate with plant crew, quality control technicians, maintenance team, and sales representatives to ensure successful daily operations
- Respond to repair calls outside of normal business hours as needed
Requirements:
- Auto or diesel technology diploma from an accredited technical school
- Five years’ experience in ready mix plant maintenance or other manufacturing plant maintenance required
- Welding and cutting torch skills to work with metal to repair and maintain plant machinery and equipment
- Basic electric wiring understanding to troubleshoot and repair. Skills helpful include checking a motor or fuse disconnects box for continuity, replacing electric eyes, replacing motor leads, and using a voltage meter in a 480 volt, three-phase environment
- Ability to perform preventative maintenance chores such as cleaning chutes and changing dust house filter bags as needed
- Adhere to strict safety policy including lockout-tagout, confined space, fall protection, and all other applicable safety policies incurred performing work duties
- Good communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment
- Ability to work with management to help improve and maintain a good preventative maintenance program
- Self-motivated with the ability to work alone at times in an unsupervised atmosphere
- Valid South Carolina Driver’s License with a clean driving record
- Ability to safely use miscellaneous tools, such as sledgehammers, wrenches, screwdrivers, and pneumatic hammer/drill
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to work safely and efficiently in a fast paced, high-pressure environment
- Ability to work varying work shifts with varying start and stop times
- Ability to work overtime, nights, and out of town travel
- Experience complying with OSHA and state environmental regulations

Physical Demands:*
- Ability to safely lift a minimum of 75 lbs.
- Ability to climb, stoop, bend, squat, lift, stretch, push, pull, twist, kneel, stand, walk, sit, reach, and operate a computer keyboard
- Ability to safely climbing up and down stairs and/or ladders
- Ability to work primarily outside, with exposure to the extremes of hot or cold weather
