The Purchasing Manager is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating the activities of the Purchasing Department, including supporting and development of departmental policy.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works closely with production managers and other departments on the planning and forecasting of customer orders to meet shipments.
  • Represents the company in negotiating contracts and formulating policies with suppliers
  • Directs and coordinates activities of interdepartmental personnel engaged in buying, selling and distributing materials, equipment, machinery, and supplies
  • Locates vendors of materials, equipment or supplies, and interview them to determine product availability and terms of sales
  • Prepares and processes requisitions and purchase orders for supplies and equipment
  • Develops and implements purchasing and contract management instructions, policies, and procedures
  • Maintains records of goods ordered and received in company?s computer software
  • Participates in the development of specifications for equipment, product or substitute materials.
  • Analyzes market and delivery systems to assess present and future materials availability
  • Resolves vendor or contractor grievances, and claims against suppliers
  • Controls purchasing department budgets
  • Reviews, evaluates and approves specifications for issuing and awarding bids
  • Reviews purchase order claims and contracts for conformance to company policy
  • Administers online purchasing system
  • Prepares reports regarding market conditions and materials/goods costs
  • Arranges for disposal of surplus materials
  • Formulates policies and procedures for bid proposals and procurement of goods and services
  • Attends production/meetings, trade shows, conferences, conventions, and seminars to network with people in other purchasing departments for best practices
  • Ensures and satisfies company goals & objectives, departmental compliance; represent the department in internal/external audits
  • Interviews and hires staff and oversee staff training; assist in staff performance reviews and or performance improvement discussions
