Job Summary: The Project Portfolio Manager is responsible for facilitating the prioritization and management of cross-functional projects and programs. The Project Portfolio Manager serves as the chief architect and process owner of the project portfolio management process. This individual aligns strategy and execution by applying Lean and systems thinking approaches to strategy and governance. The Project Portfolio Manager serves as a facilitator and helps business areas achieve organizational goals by supporting internal processes and promoting enterprise collaboration to prioritize and select the optimal mix of project initiatives to achieve these results. Additionally, the Project Portfolio Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day activities in the Project Management Office (PMO), providing guidance on PMO policies and processes, leading project management staff, and coordinating activities between department leaders.
Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and support PMO governance standards
  • Effectively facilitate meetings using reporting tools and dashboards to enable standard portfolio performance reporting. Work closely with Agile team to enable sustainable pace within the portfolio.
  • Oversee analysis of business opportunities. Ensure all work has a priority established and is within the capacity of the organization. Report portfolio performance and achievement of key results to executive leadership team.
  • Oversee project stakeholder commitment is securing actualization of projected project benefits. Ensure systems are in place to capture cost/benefit comparisons and report actual benefits relative to intended benefits.
  • Maintain knowledge of internal and external practices related to project and portfolio management practices and frameworks and resource capacity planning. Offer oversight for project planning, including setting deadlines, prioritizing tasks, and assigning team members to various deliverables
  • Work with the project teams to develop product requirements, budgets, and project milestones
  • Analyze and report on financial data, including project budgets, risks, and resource allocation
  • Continuously evaluate projects to ensure they are adhering to budgets and meeting organizational requirements
  • Present monthly project portfolio reviews to the senior management including schedule, project buffer, costs, issues, etc.
  • Schedule and document meeting notes as necessary to support project portfolio
  • Assist with other related duties as required or assigned

Requirements:Skills and Aptitudes:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to craft messages that clearly and succinctly communicate key messages for audiences at all levels of the organization
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams to drive results, identify project dependences and ensure requisite tasks/requests are completed in a timely manner
  • Collaboration and presentation tools (i.e., SharePoint, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Ability to think strategically and come up with out of the box ideas/solutions
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities (issue identification, problem structuring, analysis, development of actionable recommendations)
  • Ability to build and leverage relationships with key business partners
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and follow-up skills
  • Word, Advanced Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, database and business intelligence software and analytics tools.

Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in business, finance, or management is required.
  • Minimum 5+ years of project management experience that includes successful delivery of large, complex, projects spanning both business processes and technology solutions required.
  • Minimum of 3+ years in a supervisory role required.
  • 1+ years working with Agile development process is strongly preferred.
  • 1+ years’ experience in Lean Product Development is a plus
  • PMP certification strongly preferred
