The role of Project Engineer – Work with mechanical design engineers, automation and controls engineers, software engineers and product managers to take technologies from R & D to Commercialization. You will assist and support design, specify and implement the equipment, machinery and structure for our vertical farm(s). You will participate in the design and development of the facility structure and liaise between external contractors, engineers, vendors, etc. lending technical and engineering expertise and support as needed. You will work with other creative and dynamic individuals to innovate and bring new products to market.

What you’ll do:

• Reporting to the Vice President of Engineering, you will lead/participate in projects for the development and implementation of equipment and Vertical farm systems technology. This will include to develop design specification(s), following through to the installation and commissioning of vertical farm systems and equipment.
• Lead /participate in the design of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems and equipment specification alongside MEP design/construction firm professionals
• Manage/participate in project drawing review process for all design, bid and construction sets
• Participate in growing system design and supervise installation, packaging equipment and production automation equipment.
• Maintain and develop and framework to monitor project metrics including KPI’s
• Collaborate with multiple departments including Operations, Plant Safety, Facilities, IT, Farm Development, Food Safety, and Sustainability to complete projects that introduce new products and improve efficiencies and existing capabilities
• Provide necessary documentation to the end user(s) at project completion including drawings, SOP’s, manuals, etc.
• Design modification and improvement of production machinery and equipment to improve safety, quality, and cost. Including value engineering to reach desire cost parameters. This includes develop and maintain User Requirement documents
• Work with team to specify and source off-the-shelf and modified standard mechanical and electrical components.
• Documentation of project progress and periodic reporting to Senior Management
• Control and compliance with time and budget requirements.

You’ll be a great fit if you have:

• BS/MS degree in Mechanical Engineering. PMP certification is a plus
• 5+ years of project engineering experience e.g. in: electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, process engineering, chemical engineering, automation engineering, electromechanical engineering, engineering technology or plant engineering
• Experience with 2D CAD, REVIT, and drafting programs such as AutoCAD, 3D experience in SolidWorks is a plus.
• Understanding and functional knowledge of automation systems, vision systems, PLC’s, low voltage controls, three phase power distribution, electronic sensors, pneumatics, hydraulics, and building automation.
• Design and application knowledge of machine and electrical safety standards.
• Experience with Bluebeam, Adobe Acrobat, e drawings including collaboration software
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as technical drawings, P&ID’s, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
• Experience in mechanical, hydronics, HVAC and electrical design
• Highly collaborative, engages individuals/teams to achieve superior results and creates an atmosphere of value-driven outcomes
• Great soft skills, with excellent verbal and written communication
• A self-starter. Lead and manage projects to the desired result. On time and on budget
• Demonstrate strong personal attributes that include: teamwork, collaboration, professionalism, leadership and the ability to see the “big picture”
• Experience in food or similar industry preferred
