Summary:
The Program Coordinator Hyperbaric Safety is also known as the Hyperbaric Safety Director (HSD) and is responsible for the development, coordination and implementation of Safety and Regulatory standards to facilitate a safe environment in the provision of therapeutic management of patient care to an assigned group of patients, in adherence to the Standards of Practice, policies and procedures, and NFPA99. This position is also a hyperbaric chamber operator.
Responsibilities:
Assists in the coordination of hyperbaric patients and the day-to-day operations of the hyperbaric facility.
Keeps complete and accurate patient records as they pertain to assessment, treatments, and documentation of care.
Performs patient care within the scope of practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse, Respiratory Therapist, and Paramedic/EMT. Maintains clinical expertise in area of specialty.
Follows the plan of care in collaboration with the patient care team.
Provides care in consideration of length of stay and patient/family needs.
Reviews discharge care with patient/family/physician and other team members.
In accordance with the requirements set forth in NFPA 99, Chapter 14, the
Safety Director
will work with the governing body of the parent organization and the Hyperbaric Medical Director to develop a comprehensive safety program for all permanent and part-time department personnel.
Maintains maintenance reports and submits it to the Medical Director.
Coordinates and approves all upgrades, modifications, and repairs to the hyperbaric system, including the interaction with hospital maintenance and outside contractors as appropriate.
Serves as the hyperbaric facility technical trainer for all staff members.
Conducts and coordinates in-service training related to various technical aspects of the operation of hyperbaric chamber systems and related components.
Supports unit education through a variety of activities, such as precepting, unit in-services, and may also assist in organizational educational programs.
Staff Development: Participates in the orientation of new employees. Works in partnership with members of the team.
Demonstrates accountability for patient education (orientation), maintaining professional competencies.
Effectively communicates with care team members and physicians relevant to safety within the hyperbaric suite.
Follows plan of care/Clinical Pathways assuring progression toward quality outcomes.
Consults with physicians and team members. Supports roles of all co-workers. Maintains effective relationships with primary and consulting physicians.
Demonstrates flexibility in meeting staffing needs of department.
Maintains and Models Nuvance Health Values.
Demonstrates regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
Performs other duties as required.

Education Skills Experience
- Education: Requires education as a Licensed Practical Nurse, Paramedic, EMT, or Respiratory Therapist.
- Must have a current and valid Connecticut and/or New York (state) license/certification in respective field of qualifying credential (e.g., LPN, Paramedic, EMT or Respiratory Therapist).
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certificate (mandatory).
- Must have documentation of successful completion of a 40-hour National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology (NBDHMT) – approved Introductory Hyperbaric Medicine Course.
- Certification as a Hyperbaric Technologist (CHT).
- Attend approved Hyperbaric Safety Director (HSD) course.
- Maintenance of CHT qualifying credential.
- Should have at least 12 months of recent practical experience in clinical hyperbaric medicine.
