The Program Assistant will work primarily in the Extension Family & Community Health (FCH) office and work directly under the supervision of the CEA-FCH. This position is responsible for planning and conducting specific educational programs as assigned by the FCH agent to support community health and wellness, prevent childhood obesity, and contribute the improvement of the community though research based program delivery utilizing Extension Family and Community Health and Interdisciplinary curriculum projects. The Program Assistant will be assigned to work in areas of critical needs in the county including, but not limited to, childhood obesity intervention projects and wellness education programming. The Program Assistant will recruit, train, and utilize volunteers to further extend Extension educational programming outreach. By including an Extension Program Assistant, the mission and outreach of Texas A&M Extension Service will be augmented enabling the Extension service to become better equipped to meet the rapidly growing population of Montgomery County.

Education, Experience and Skill Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field; or combination of bachelor’s degree and related work experience.
- Professional experience as an effective educator (non-formal, formal, or community-based education. Youth, adults, families, or elderly audiences). Computer literate - experience with various computer programs including MS Office suite, website maintenance and social media.
- Ability to initiate new education programs/classes and sites, while maintaining positive relationships with existing program partners.
- Ability to coordinate, schedule, lead, follow-through with and manage approved educational programs and classes/series throughout Montgomery County.
- Bilingual English - Spanish is strongly preferred.
- Experience working with adults, youth, or families in various settings and of diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to work on projects independently or as part of a team; internal and external collaboration as required or directed.
- Effective professional communication, teamwork, and representing the agency in a professional manner is required.
- Experience working with volunteers, including recruiting, training, and effectively utilizing volunteers is preferred.
Primary Job Duties
- Assist with Family and Community Health programming and outreach including but not limited to health, wellness, families, community, and other identified needs in the county.
- Conduct educational and promotional programs using approved curriculum related to Family and Community Health at sites throughout the county. Audiences to include youth through adults.
- Assist with program management including monthly reports, annual reports, database entry, marketing, public presentations, and other tasks.
- Assist with program preparation, implementation, wrap up, evaluations and reports in a timely manner. Maintain accurate supply inventory and purchase supplies for programs. Use of personal vehicle for travel to programs and transporting program equipment and supplies. Travel to other locations in AgriLife Extension Districts when needed.
- Perform administrative tasks using office equipment, including phone calls, printing, copy, fax, emails, newsletters, mail-outs, creating flyers and brochures, use of social media, etc.
- Assist with or lead programs outside of normal business hours at the office and/or off-site.
- Answer phones, greet public by phone and in person, respond to needs of the public in a professional and timely manner.
- Work with, recruit effective volunteers for Extension programs.
- Other duties as assigned.
