What is this job?

The Training Manager is responsible for collaborating with the program and other BCC leaders to develop and implement curricula surrounding several focus areas: new hire onboarding; training that meets compliance standards mandated by BCC’s licensing and accreditation bodies (as well as industry best practices); leadership and professional development; and organizational culture and improvement.

To deliver on these pieces of training, the training manager is supported by two full-time and one part-time Training Specialist roles, in addition to a pool of internal and external trainers. The training manager will also be able to draw on and deploy pre-certified content created and published by Relias.com, BCC’s Learning Management System (LMS).

  • Develop a rich and rewarding onboarding and ongoing training experience for staff. Work with BCC leaders to balance delivery of the needed regulatory training requirements, job-specific skill training, and BCC cultural and team-building experiences.
  • Responsible for Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI), Safe Crisis Management (SCM), CPR/First Aid, Trauma Informed Care (TIC), Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA[KM1] ), and Leadership Academy ongoing course execution and curricula updates.
    • Oversee instructor recruitment, certification, and competency testing.
    • Directly, or via a designee, ensure that updates to the above-mentioned trauma-Informed job-specific curricula are incorporated into BCC training materials and that BCC instructors are trained/notified of the changes.
    • Ensure Training Specialists are partnering with the program to enroll participants and ensure minimal to no lapses in certification.
    • Distribute periodic compliance score reports to leadership.
  • With the Human Resources team as a partner, implement the Residential Child and Youth Care Practitioner (RCYCP) certification and training program to applicable staff. Ensure certified staff is meeting their annual CEU requirements and any license renewals are processed prior to expiration. Provide training reports to communicate progress towards compliance to the Human Resources team partner.
  • Provide oversight of training supplies (e.g. CPR/First Aid equipment, YMHFA materials) and ensure external databases are kept up to date (e.g. American Red Cross, RCYCP)
  • Partner with the Director of QI and Training and other leaders to build implementation and sustainability plans supporting evidence-based training and certifications.
  • Make recommendations to the Director of QI and Training for addition, expansion, or retirement of training sessions. Research and develop curricula as assigned.
  • Maintain the master training calendar for BCC. Collate external training opportunities coming up into a central place for staff to review. Ensure the Caminos training specialist is keeping a similar calendar specific to all Office of Refugee Resettlement training (both required and optional).
  • Monitor internal [KB2] [KS3] and external trainers and vendors in person and/or review attendee evaluations to ensure they deliver quality, engaging sessions.
  • Recruit and interview new additions to the training pool as needed. Provide constructive feedback to internal trainers and ensure they are receiving professional development within their area of specialty, leadership, and/or adult learning topics.
  • Development and administrative oversight of BCC’s e-learning platform (Relias.com).
    • Provide program designees with information to properly inform them of training needs, compliance scores, of their Talent members.
    • Build or run custom reports as needed. Use Microsoft Excel to build simple charts and graphs to bring Relias report data to life.
  • Ensure departmental policy and procedure manuals are kept up to date and submitted for approval before the stated deadlines.


Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelors of Arts degree in related field from an accredited college or university.
  • 5 years of professional development and training experience focused on adult learning.
  • 2 years of management experience of direct reports and/or management of a training bench.
  • 1 year of experience in a programming capacity (e.g. education, substance abuse, residential, mental health).
