As the Production Planner and Scheduler, you are responsible for creating production plans and managing schedules that drive the flow of work through the manufacturing organization. The scope of work includes established customer purchase orders and Engineering New Product Development purchase orders.
The Planner and Scheduler works as a member of the Sales, Inventory & Operation Plan (SI&OP) team (Sales, Supply Chain, Engineering, Quality and Operations) which as a team establishes plans that ensure materials, equipment, and labor requirements are in place to satisfy demands. This position then translates these plans into schedules that ensure production deadlines are met. This role analyzes material needs and availability, machine and labor capacity, production performance data to provide status and performance reports to management. Excellent proactive communication, critical thinking and problem-solving skills are essential to establish these plans and schedules as well as recovery plans in the event issues place production orders at risk.
Job Duties
- Develop plans for what materials and resources will be required to fulfill incoming and forecasted demand and ensures that enough materials, equipment, and operator capacity is available to produce orders on time for recurring production and New Product Development activities.
- Determine when the production plan will be executed based on total demands and available plant capacity. Readjust production schedules and recommend expediting tactics for delaying conditions.
- Ensure sequencing of work will maximize production capacity and utilization while balancing demand of a rolling Sales and Marketing forecast.
- Create, calculate, and maintain related Key Performance Indicators (KPI); establish goals, and report on progress.
- Analyze flow and identify constraints in the manufacturing sequence. Manage scheduling the constraint for maximum utilization.
- As a member of the SI&OP team, develop plans to support long range forecasts for equipment and labor.
- Perform as the subject matter expert of the ERP planning capabilities and ensure that the ERP is being utilized to its fullest extent resulting in the elimination of external tools/spreadsheets. Create and maintain timely and complete ERP production data, including new items to ensure that procurement and planning requirements are accurately calculated.
- Ability to understand engineering documents and work closely with members of the engineering team to plan and deliver prototypes and low volume builds.
- Analyze information and presents findings utilizing spreadsheets, charts, graphs, and reports relating to critical manufacturing workflow business issues
- Act as liaison between Supply Chain, Quality, Operations, Engineering, Sales & Marketing to communicate status and issue resolutions.
- Promote continual improvement culture. Identify recommendations that improve business processes for Planning and Scheduling.

Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- 2+ years of experience in production and material scheduling in a manufacturing environment
- 2+ years demonstrated knowledge and experience with ERP / MRP systems
- Advanced expertise with Excel, specifically with data analysis
- Critical thinking skills applied to planning based on demand, capacity and understanding production bottlenecks
- Ability to work closely with cross functional team made up of sales, production, engineering supply chain, inventory, quality, and plant management
- Ability to provide quick responses to team members responding to new order quotes
- Problem solving skills to develop alternatives and recovery plans when issues arise
- Highly effective communication skills, both written and verbal
- Strong organizational skills and detail orientation
- Able to manage multiple priorities & meet deadlines
Preferred:
Associates or bachelor’s degree or higher education towards business management, production planning and /or scheduling- Experience with planning / scheduling complex assembles that require external processing as part of their flow
- Experience in Medical Device manufacturing environment
- Knowledge in ERP/MRP systems and SI&OP forecast development
- Basic understanding of engineering drawings and documentation
- APICS or equivalent certification
