Production Assembly Supervisor Job at Phoenix Manufacturing, Inc.
The Assembly Supervisor supervises and coordinates the work of employees who work on both the industrial and residential assembly-lines. The Assembly Supervisor prepares work schedules, assigns work, and oversees the work product. Being an Assembly Supervisor ensures operations and employees follow proper policies and procedures. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. As such, we expect this person to be able to lead by example, work independently and ensure good work attitudes, atmosphere, and communication to maximize productivity. The Assembly Supervisor will be required to transmit directions and work instructions to a group of workers engaged in closely related operations. Ensuring a safe and efficient workplace is always maintained.
Requirements:The Assembly Supervisor will have several Roles and Responsibilities including, but not limited to the following:
- Working knowledge of production processes with the ability to “fill-in” on each piece of equipment or meet the necessity of the assigned area. Has the skills necessary to solve production issues impacting the assembly lines
- Giving immediate direction as to actual and immediate work, machine operations, work methods, shop or trade practice, machine or work set-ups, and layouts for demonstration purposes
- Leads and supervises the team of employees in a technical, fast paced, deadline driven environment that emphasizes quality
- Assesses skills and knowledge, addressing gaps where applicable, of team members and allocates them to meet customer needs daily
- Ensures the specific personnel, machines, tools, and equipment are properly utilized for work to be done
- Partner with technical maintenance team to ensure equipment is periodically maintained and operating as designed.
- Training the assemblers and providing them adequate knowledge about the process
- Maintaining records and documents of daily production and dispatched goods
- Preparing monthly and yearly reports and presenting them before the production or manufacturing managers
- Ensuring that Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) are monitored, and targets achieved
- Liaise and coordinate with support functions to progress issues concerning production planning and resource/skill allocation to ensure delivery of products to schedule within all relevant quality specifications
- Through the utilization of lean manufacturing techniques, strive to exceed the Company targets in productivity, efficiency, and quality on a continuous basis
- Support the implementation of engineering changes, production trials, model change and pilot build · Report and act upon plant or machinery breakdowns to maintenance technicians
- Support the resolution of Customer concerns. Identify and eliminate root cause using robust countermeasures. Sustain the corrective actions to eliminate repeat issues
- Ensures that inventory listings, and labor costs are recorded accurately and meet or exceed pre-established standards
- Ensures that minimum/maximum inventories are kept at a level that allows for complete, on time filling of orders, and that correct product for all productions line are ordered in a timely manner and are kept on-hand in sufficient quantity
- Schedules production activity with the highest contribution to overhead as priority
- Trains, supervises, motivates, and handles discipline issues for area of responsibility
- Sets daily productivity goals, monitors production progress in the plant, meets or exceeds productions goals
- Ensures that coordination of productions, warehouse, and shipping result in efficient, safe and secure operation of the facility
- Works closely with other employees, management, and departments
- Communicates productions goals to department leadership in area of responsibility
- Responsible for consistent shift operation according to established procedures and processes
- Measure of effectiveness will be consistently high ratings on conducted process and procedure audits
- Contribute in the improvement of working procedures by constantly looking for solutions to ensure the best productivity results of her/his machinery group and ensuring compliance with procedures, operating instructions and work instructions
- Expedites orders throughout the plant to ensure customer orders are met in a timely manner while ensuring quality and safe working practices
- Instilling a sense of urgency and desire to maximize output on the production floor wherever the opportunity arises, while monitoring productivity
- Supports the compliance with, and the maintenance of, safety requirements in accordance with company policies and/or federal/state laws
- Identifies, coaches, and develops team members through training, performance reviews, coaching, support and delegation as appropriate for their development level
- Insures employees are properly trained in their position and additional positions as applies
- Establishes an environment that is conducive to collaboration and teamwork, promotes positive employee relations and takes steps to prevent or diffuse conflicts
- Conduct incident, accident and non-conformity investigations and associated reporting and action closure
- May be required to complete machine set-ups
- Must perform all work in accordance with all applicable safety procedures
- Able to work Overtime based on production requirements
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Required Skills and Abilities:
- High school diploma, general education degree (GED) acceptable; 2-year degree or technical training preferred
- 3-5 years leadership experience in a manufacturing or fast paced work environment
- A full understanding of the requirements of running an assembly, such as health and safety and quality requirements
- Significant work experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment, preferably HVAC industry
- Knowledge and understanding of lean techniques may be advantageous
- Proven track record within manufacturing management
- Flexible, assertive, team player who is willing to help out wherever needed to achieve company goals
- To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty efficiently, safely and in an acceptable manner
- Possess familiarity with machines, work functions and/or operations to which assigned
- Sufficient degree of skill in assigned trade, craft, machines, and work operations
- Ability to properly transmit information and instruction to others
- Proper knowledge of current trade practice, materials, and tooling as it affects work being performed
- Able to understand and use proper methods of transmitting supervisions directions
- Must have ability to lead by example
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; follow written and/or verbal orders; read, write, speak and comprehend English
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to work as needed, particularly during high volume periods, to ensure that departmental objectives are accomplished
- Deal with problems involving variable in standardized situations; understand fundamental flow of shop material and its problems or material handling
- Regularly lift and/or move objects 20-25 lbs.; occasionally lift and/or move objects that weigh more than 100 lbs.
- Able to withstand temperatures in a typical warehouse environment
