Responsibilities

Draper's Electro-Acoustic Sensors and Systems group is seeking an Acoustic Sensor Design Engineer to lead the development of novel transducer technology, from initial concept through design and delivery. You will directly contribute to and/or oversee a diverse set of tasks including mechanical design, transducer modeling and control, system architecture, materials research and development, laboratory test and experimentation, and fielding of deliverable systems. You will also contribute to the development of presentations, proposals and whitepapers that win and sustain customer business.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate has a technology background in the architecture and mechanical design of acoustic sensor systems, with skills that include:

  • acoustic materials and devices
  • static and dynamic modeling of acoustic transducers
  • finite element analysis
  • passive and/or active noise and vibration control
  • audio system design and simulation
  • general mechanical design and modeling
  • design for manufacturing
  • laboratory test and measurement
  • rapid prototyping (machine shop, 3D printing, etc.)

Candidates should be familiar with the following tools:

  • Ansys, MATLAB, Simulink, and other modeling tools
  • Solidworks and other CAD tools
  • Audio Precision, National Instruments, or Liquid Instruments measurement systems

Candidates should possess a B.S. or M.S. in mechanical engineering, materials science, or a related field with at least 15 years of work experience.
