A postdoctoral research associate position is available to work on a National Institute of Aging grant investigating the mechanisms of fatigability in people with prediabetes and diabetes, and the protective effects of exercise. The successful applicant will work in the Neuromuscular Physiology of Movement Laboratory under the guidance of principal investigator (PI), Professor Sandra Hunter.
The research associate position is for individuals who are highly motivated and able to work independently and as an integral part of our larger research team.
Duties and Responsibilities
The major responsibilities of the successful applicant will be to lead and conduct scientific research in the mechanisms of whole limb fatigue and an exercise-training study people with prediabetes and Type 2 diabetes (aged 40-75 years). They are expected to lead and organize the studies, conduct, and oversee the data measurements, analysis, and interpretation.
The successful candidate will be expected to publish scholarly papers, assist with grant writing, as well as mentor undergraduate and graduate students in the lab.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ph.D. degree in one of the following or a related field: Exercise Physiology/Science, Kinesiology, Human Movement, Physical Therapy, Rehabilitation.
Fluency in the English language is essential along with strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Experience with measurement and analysis of strength, torque, electromyography, and using dynamometers and conducting electrical stimulation of muscles. Experience working with people with diabetes and exercise training is preferred. Some background in cardiovascular function and measurements is welcome.
