SUMMARY
The Plant Manager is responsible for the safety, quality, financial, continuous improvement and human resource goals in the production and supply of parts to multiple Greenbrier railcar production and repair facilities. This position leads and develops a team of department managers that collaborates with internal and external teams to ensure consistent delivery of quality parts.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develops and manages the profit and loss strategy of the facility including managing the overall budget for the production, materials, engineering, and maintenance activities for the plant including recommendations for long-range requirements for capital spending for facilities and equipment.
- Ensures safety and the environment is the highest priority in the manufacturing process and manages compliance with federal, state and company directives.
- Manages the production schedule and process ensuring quality parts that meet engineering and design requirements and on-time delivery to the customer.
- Ensures all (FRA) Federal Railroad Administration and (AAR) American Association of Railroads regulations are met within the manufacturing process and serves as the plant representative alongside the Quality Manager during external audits.
- Collaborates with business unit and GMO Quality Management teams to conduct periodic internal quality audits.
- Communicates operational status and startegy to the team and upper management using presentations and regularly scheduled reporting mechanisms.
- In concert with the New Car Manufacturing Director, develops the strategy to determine the future direction of the plant's production efforts.
- Assesses workforce requirements and collaborates with the Human Resources department regarding current and future workforce needs.
- Manages the Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement programs for the location.
- Coordinates internal and external resources as needed to provide team member training, efficiency improvements, and to reduce quality non-conformance.
- Mentors, develops,and manages performance of the team.
- Ensures company-wide programs, policies and procedures are implemented effectively within the facility.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business or related field OR 5+ years in a management role.
- Knowledge of General Accounting Principles and effective accounting controls.
- Ability to translate operational objectives into strategies and project plans that drive action through others.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and goals.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment leading 100+ employees.
- Experience leading quality and continuous improvement methodologies such as LEAN, Six Sigma, ISO (International Organization for Standardization) certifications, and 4DX (The 4 Disciplines orf Execution) principles.
- Ability to work effectively with employees at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, current operational status and future strategy through reporting and presentations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Business or Operations Management
- Experience in railcar manufacturing or parts manufacturing adhering to (FRA) Federal Railroad Administration and (AAR) American Association of Railroads regulations
- Experience managing a 100+ employee facility with full financial and operational responsibilities.

Work Environment
This position requires administrative duties that are performed witin an office environment and a presence on the production floor with exposure to heat and cold, moving machinery, and other hazards that require head, sight, hearing and foot protection along with any additional personal protective equipment required for the area.
