Job Overview:
The Plant Engineer will be responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the La Porte, TX facility as well as additional facilities, as needed, within the USIG business. The position provides day-to-day technical leadership and direction to assigned operating unit(s) with emphasis on process safety, reliability, efficiency, operational discipline, and environmental compliance. In addition, the position coordinates technical resources to assist operations in production, maintenance, and small project execution activities. This position reports to the La Porte, TX Facility Manager. Occasional travel may be required.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Interface with operations of assigned plants daily, including but not limited to monitoring and reporting out on plant health, monitoring and reporting out on plant efficiency, monitoring and reporting out on equipment operation, identifying shortfalls in plant operation, and recommending operational improvements.
- Troubleshoot equipment problems and engage appropriate resources to implement solutions
- Develop and monitor key performance indicators for overall plant performance
- Develop operational knowledge around air separation units, nitrogen liquefiers, and liquid-to-gas driox units.
- Maintain Management of Change (MOC) process for assigned plants.
- Drive compliance with all operating permits, environmental regulations, and process safety elements.
- Collaborate with plant superintendent and manager on operational improvements.
- Interface with customers on technical, operational, and commercial issues.
- Maximize reliability and stay abreast of key threats to avoid unscheduled shutdowns.
- Provide process safety stewardship
- Maintain process cooling water and boiler chemistries.
- Support plant start-ups and troubleshoot unplanned shutdowns and failures through root cause methodology
- Ensure technicians are trained on all changes and on proper monitoring of air separation units and reactions to equipment upsets.
- Provide technical expertise to plant technicians.
- Ensure all necessary production logs and records are properly maintained. Generate reports as required.
- Write SOPs and ensure SOPs are used to start and stop major equipment and processes to prevent unnecessary process delays and to maintain operational consistency and reliability.
- Develop scope for, secure funding for, and execute small capital projects.
- Recommend and support productivity initiatives to meet site productivity goals.
- Effectively communicate with resources needed for successful execution of work, including but not limited to contractors, technicians, engineers, and managers.
- Flexibility in work schedule to support operations during startup, shutdown or unplanned events.
- Able to work in confined spaces and at elevated levels.
- Able to travel outside the Houston area up to 10% of the time.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor or Master's degree in mechanical or chemical engineering
- 2+ years of Operations Experience preferred
- Must be a self-starter with the ability to drive execution of projects and strategic and tactical initiatives.
- Must possess proven leadership, team building, and decision-making skills.
- Must be reliability and efficiency focused and possess strong planning and execution skills.
- Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to motivate and lead a diverse workforce to achieve desired results.
