At MyForest Foods, we grow and harvest mycelium in vertical farms, producing large structures that resemble whole cuts of meat in as little as 12 days. We then slice these meaty “cuts” and season them to perfection in a traditional brine recipe. MyBacon® is our first of many mycelium-based meatless alternatives. It’s as realistic as vegan bacon gets; people are blown away by how satisfying and similar it is to pork bacon.

About the role:

MyForest Foods is seeking a Plant-based Food Production Associate to join our kitchen. This individual will support our weekly mycelium food product production in our company kitchen. Ideal candidates will not only have cooking experience, but a familiarity with food ingredient handling, following industrial recipe procedures and coordinating with team members to produce a consumer food product to precise specifications.

Essential role functions:

  • Follow standard operating procedures to prepare and produce our food products to the highest quality standards
  • Pick up and transport raw materials to a 3rd-party production kitchen
  • Assist with the preparation of raw ingredients
  • Prepare food items by cutting, chopping, mixing, and preparing sauces
  • Use grilling, frying, sautéing, and other cooking methods to cook food products to recipe specifications and standards
  • Maintain cleanliness and comply with food sanitation requirements including proper food handling and correct storage procedures
  • Process and package ingredients into finished product
  • Prepare products for shipping and/or transportation to designated storage locations
  • Adhere to proper set-up, clean-up and safety procedures in our shared kitchen space
  • Daily stocking and inventory assessment of food items and other necessary supplies

Minimum qualifications and competencies (the must-haves):

  • Food production experience in a culinary or manufacturing environment
  • Comfortable operating appliances and tools commonly found within the industrial kitchen environment
  • Enthusiasm for the alternative-meat market with the ability to compare traditional products to alternative meat products.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without a reasonable accommodation

Preferred qualifications and competencies (the nice-to-haves):

  • ServSafe and/or HACCP/HARPC certifications are a plus
  • A background in the Culinary Arts or Food Science field is beneficial, but not required
  • Experience with produce, fungi and/or vegetarian food products is also a plus
  • A New York State Driver’s license—and reliable transportation—to transport raw materials and finished product is preferred
