Position Overview
The Division of Mental Health is seeking to hire a Physician Specialist Option D for the Elgin Mental Health Center located in Elgin, Illinois to practice tele-psychiatry and clinically direct a caseload on an inpatient unit. Serves as a staff psychiatrist serving assigned patients, prescribing orders, and interpreting lab tests. Evaluates assigned cases. Travels in the performance of duties.
Job Responsibilities
- Practices tele-psychiatry and clinically directs a caseload on an inpatient unit.
- Prepares progress notes, written reports, and other formal written documentation of the patient’s status, as it relates to psychiatric practice.
- Provides clinical direction to staff involved in direct care.
- Travels in the performance of duties.
- Serves as a member of the treatment site’s medical, pavilion, program, and ad hoc committees, as mandated by accreditation standards and the case evaluation, audit and utilization psychiatric review medical by-laws.
- Promptly responds to emergencies for an assigned tele-psychiatric caseload.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonable within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires an Illinois license to practice medicine and American Board Certification in psychiatry.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two (2) years of professional experience evaluating the quality of specialized medical care and treatment for patients with mental illness.
- Two (2) years of professional experience coordinating medical services with other professional disciplines and supportive personnel.
- Two (2) years of professional experience conducting psychiatric exams of patients.
- Two (2) years of professional experience identifying most appropriate positive treatment regime and carrying out that treatment in accordance with best practices.
- Two (2) years of professional experience communicating effectively both orally and in writing.
- Two (2) years of professional experience preparing comprehensive and specialized medical records and reports.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires a Federal Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) certificate.
- Requires the ability to travel, sites may not be served by public transportation.
- Requires the ability to stand and walk for a significant period of time, including stooping, bending, lifting or exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally.
- Requires ability to maintain current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification.
- Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
- Requires ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance.
