Supervisor: Chief Medical Officer (or Medical Director)
Job Description: The Physician Assistant is responsible for diagnosing and treating a variety of diseases and injuries as part of the Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) care delivery model in a Family Medicine setting; provides comprehensive, outpatient medical services for individuals and families on a continuing basis; and, may, at certain locations, provide a continuum of care into inpatient and/or residential settings.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the essential functions, practices and procedures of a medical clinic and office
Knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding
Knowledge of and ability to diagnose and treat a variety of diseases and injuries in a Family Practice model setting
Knowledge of, skills related to and ability to treat medical and surgical emergencies
Skill in operating personal computer utilizing word processing, databases and e-mail
Skill in operating various office equipment: calculator, copy machine, fax machine, and telephone
Skill in operating various medical office equipment, such as; EKG machine, pulse oximeter, nebulizer, spirometer, audiology, sterilizers, etc.
Ability to work as a team member of an interdisciplinary care delivery model known as the Patient-Centered Medical Home and Team Care Medicine model.
Ability to hold a State Pharmacy Dispensing License and dispense medications (dependent upon health center location)
Ability to maintain confidentiality of information, patient financial and medical information
Ability to read, write legibly, calculate mathematical figures and medication doses
Ability to solve practical problems dealing with a variety of variables
Ability to exercise good judgment in appraising situations and making decisions
Ability to work and interact effectively and positively with other staff members to build and to enhance teamwork in the clinics and overall CHA's organization
Ability to communicate in a courteous and professional manner
Ability to provider culturally-competent care to all patient types regardless of age, race, gender, or ethnicity. Spanish language proficiency helpful but not required.
Ability to understand and respond appropriately, effectively and sensitively to special population groups as defined by race, ethnicity, language, age, sex, etc.
Ability to hear and speak to converse over telephone and interview patients
Ability to see to accurately calculate and administer doses of medication and perform physical exams
Ability to lift up to 20 pounds on a frequent basis

Education and Experience: Graduate of an accredited program of Physician Assistants; certified by the Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners as a Physician Assistant. Minimum of 1-2 years experience in a community health center or rural health setting preferred but not required. Must be licensed in the State of Nevada.
II. RESPONSIBILITIES
Patient Encounters
Performs patient medical care as described by the nurse practices and by the guidelines of CHA. This may included;
Diagnoses and treats a variety of diseases and injuries
Performs variety of procedures in the clinic
Promotes health by educating the patient regarding diet, hygiene and prevention of disease
Performs surgical procedures commensurate with surgical competency
Provides emergency medical services
Reports deaths and outbreak of contagious diseases to governmental authorities
Refers patients to consultant services as needed
Informs patient and patient family of risks associated with procedures and assures signatures are obtained in accordance with CHA policy and procedures
Provides emotional support, compassion and is sympathetic to patient needs
Assist in triage for walk-ins, calls-ins and urgent patients
Medical Quality
Abides by CHA professional code of conduct with demonstration of attention to quality and CHA standards for clinical productivity.
Ensures compliance with set CHA policies and procedures relating to clinical care and professionalism
Ensures compliance with HIPAA, OSHA & other regulatory agencies
Monitors competency of support staff’s clinical skills and knowledge
Ensures medical equipment and emergency medical equipment is in good working condition
Ensures adequate supplies and sterile equipment is available to meet the needs of the clinic and the population it serves
Dispenses prescribed medications according to written directions and according to CHA policy and state regulations (depending upon health center location)
Participates in quality assurance/improvement reviews of medical records as needed
Participate in quality management projects as requested
Participates in the development of medical protocols as needed
Reviews medical protocols and provides input based on research and experience
Medical Records
Documents patient's visit with entry on patient's medical record in accordance with policy
Ensures all electronic medical records and documentation are completed per CHA standard policy and procedures
Documents all interactions with patients in medical record
Laboratory Responsibilities
Oversees performance of and performs routine in office laboratory procedures (urine dipstick, hemacue, strep tests, etc) as needed
Adheres to all OSHA, state and CHA lab manual policy and procedures requirements
Financial Responsibilities
Ensures appropriate evaluation and management code is utilized to match documentation of clinic visit in patient's medical record
Ensures all appropriate charges are documented on patient's superbill and verifies/ completes required lab forms with correct ICD-10 and CPT codes
Ensures patient informed of advanced beneficiary notice and signature is obtained prior to procedure or examination
Practices economy in supply selection and usage, eliminating waste and constantly striving for way to reuse or recycle as appropriate
General Duties
Ensures proper computer procedures are followed as per CHA policy and procedure
Performs other work related duties as requested by supervisor
