Works under the supervision of the Director of Pharmacy and Assistant Director of Operations to develop and manage the clinical activities of the department. Directs and evaluates the Clinical Pharmacy Specialists. Provides input concerning clinical attributes of the Staff Clinical Pharmacists. Responsible for the optimizing the utilization and cost effectiveness of drug therapy in the hospital; which is accomplished through such activities as Drug Usage Evaluation, Adverse Drug Reaction, reporting and formulary management. Develops and implements Clinical Pharmacy Program.
Supervises the maintenance and dissemination of drug information and cost effective medication use through newsletters, in-service education of hospital personnel, and consultation with patients, hospital staff, and medical staff.
Actively assists staff pharmacists in the discharge of routine duties as necessary.
Directs the activities of and provides professional and technical guidance to pharmacy personnel.
Exercises professional judgment in imparting therapeutic and drug information to patients and health professionals.
Is competent in the range of treatment needed by the following patients as appropriate to the ages served by the hospital.
a. Adult b. Pediatric
c. Geriatric d. Adolescent
Maintains patient records to monitor drug therapy for appropriateness and safety consistent with a high level of patient care.
Is responsible for the development and quality control of the pharmacokinetic program.
Participates in clinical patient rounds, as necessary.
Is actively involved in developing, planning, implementing, and maintaining clinical programs and projects promoting patient care.
Serves as an active member of the hospital’s Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and other hospital sponsored clinical and performance improvement committees.
Maintains a leadership role in promoting the reporting of adverse drug reactions, reporting aggregated data and trends to appropriate committees along with analysis and proposed action plans

Is responsible for the development of clinical competency modules.
Is involved in the multi-disciplinary team concerned with the development and continuous evolution of clinical pathways, treatment guidelines, protocols, formulary management, and disease management care maps.
Is responsible for the performance of pharmacoeconomic assessments.
Establish and maintain a multi-disciplinary drug surveillance and utilization program
Consistently demonstrates active listening skills in all communications with customers/suppliers.
Responds to the initial requests, complaints, or concerns of customers/suppliers within 24 hours and follows up in a timely manner with a resolution.
Demonstrates clear, concise, constructive communication both verbally and in writing.
Maintains confidentiality regarding issues related to patient care and hospital operations.
Serves as a positive role model by displaying a cooperative professional behavior in interacting with others.
Incorporates knowledge of various cultural and spiritual beliefs when dealing with customers.
Communicates the Hospital and CPS Mission and Philosophy to department employees and integrates with departmental operations.
Provides leadership to new program development, implementation and evaluation. Acts as a consultant in areas of expertise.
Anticipates the needs and issues of customers/suppliers in order to insure effective departmental operations and/or meet their needs.
Promotes teamwork among staff, peers, physicians, and others.
Promotes multi disciplinary teamwork in order to meet the organization’s goals and objectives.
Responsible for assisting the Director with department planning, goals, and objectives that are consistent with the Hospital and CPS.
Provides leadership to the department through effective organization, direction of activities, and appropriate delegation of functions.
Assists Director in maintaining appropriate controls of department functions to insure smooth, effective operations.
Continuously evaluates the quality of services and/or products provided to the department’s customers.
Continuously assesses and improves the performance of care and services provided.
Demonstrates knowledge of CQI through application of the principles in departmental plan.
Uses systematic methods to improve services, plan changes, and evaluate outcomes.
Insures the development and implementation of a comprehensive CQI Plan that integrates into the hospital-wide CQI Plan.
Demonstrates effective problem solving techniques and promotes same in others.
Establishes and maintains departmental Quality Control programs as appropriate.
Actively supports the Mission and Philosophy of the organization through CQI activities.
Assists the Director review, evaluate and recommend modifications to annual operating budget(s) to provide adequate space and resources needed by the department.
Participates in the selection of sources for needed services not provided by the department/service or the organization.
Ensures that department operates within established revenue and expense budget parameters.
Develops and implements cost reduction strategies to maintain costs within budget and realize cost reduction opportunities.
Helps maintains departmental charge system for services rendered. Insures that the system is comprehensive, accurate and timely.
Recommends new services/modifications to existing services to meet patient needs and provide additional sources of revenue.
Assists the Director submit all reports (payroll, revenue, patient days, exclusion drugs, SAC report, etc.) as applicable to CPS Corporate on time.
Licensure: Current California Pharmacy License required. Current BLS/Healthcare Provider status as per American Heart Association standards required.
Experience: At least two (2) years of clinical experience. Residency Training preferred.
Essential Technical/Motor Skills: Ability to operate computer and working knowledge of programs, such as word processing, spreadsheets, and modem. Able to type 30 wpm.
The hourly rate for this position is $72.61 - $90.76. The range displayed on this job posting reflects the target for new hire salaries for this position.
