Overview:
Our Personal Care Aides are a vital member of our healthcare team. They perform team tasks to improve the quality of life for residents and in support of Loretto's mission. The Personal Care Aide follows instructions and works as part of a team, performing work tasks in various departments. Provides the highest degree of supportive service, personal care and maintains assigned areas in a clean, sanitary, safe, orderly and attractive manner in accordance with established procedures. Also provides assistance to residents as directed.
Responsibilities:

Job duties specific to this position:
  • Contributes and assists in maintaining a clean and safe building and environment for the elder, visitors and other staff with scheduled and assigned cleaning tasks.
  • Supports the resident care environment through:
    • Cleaning equipment.
    • Stocking and labeling supplies.
    • Organizing drawers and closets.
    • Making and changing of resident's beds.
    • Light cleaning of resident apartments including dish washing, dusting and vacuuming
    • Grooming, including care of hair, shaving, care of nails, teeth and mouth
    • Bathing
    • Dressing
    • Toileting
    • Walking & Transferring
    • Provides routine skin care
    • Handles clean and dirty linen appropriately per policy and procedure.
  • Provides support and supervision to residents in the dining room during meal times.
  • Transports wheelchair-bound residents to and from meals, activities, and therapy.
  • Answers call-bells and reports medication needs or requests to CHHA or nurse promptly.
  • May visit residents and provide company and conversation.
  • May accompany residents to outside appointments when required and/or scheduled.
  • Adheres to dress code policy.
  • Arrives to work on time for assigned shift and prepared to work.
  • Recognizes and responds to emergencies as trained and per policy/procedure. (Fire, CPR, Disaster, etc.)
  • Reports all safety hazards, accident, injury, abuse, or suspected abuse appropriately according to policy and procedure.
  • Functions appropriately within the New York State Scope of Tasks.
  • Completes documentation timely and accurately.
  • Observes for changes in residents physical or emotional health and communicates observations to EL Supervisor or Case Manager promptly.
  • Demonstrates proper understanding of infection control and hand washing techniques.
  • Adheres to standard and isolation precautions.
  • Adheres to Resident Right's regulation.
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills while working cooperatively with all Buckley Landing staff.
  • Adheres to service excellence by developing and maintaining positive respectful relationships with all residents, families, team members, all staff throughout the organization and community partners; performs responsibilities according to the highest quality standards.
  • Performs other care related duties as assigned.
  • Completes in-service/educational programs at a minimum of 12 hours per year (6 hours the first half of the year and 6 hours the second half per NYSDOH regulations).

Qualifications:
Requirements:
  • Current certification as a Personal Care Aide is required
  • Reliable transportation, work site is not on a bus route
  • Demonstrated caring attitude toward elderly participants
  • Manual dexterity
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with participants, family members, staff members and general public
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
