Job Description – Food &/or Beverage Server

Position: Food &/or Beverage server

Reports To: Food & Beverage Manager

Requirements: High School diploma or higher level education.

1 year of food & beverage experience.

Must work the required shift and be flexible when required.

Must be willing to work week-ends as required.

General Responsibilities

  • Ensure proper and timely completion of all food & beverage duties.
  • Direct and coordinate the activities in the dining room and/or the bar, handle reservations as appropriate, manage seating and guest accommodations and services optimize revenues.
  • Ensure the proper appearance of the dining room and/or the bar and all related public areas.
  • Ensure that the lobby, all general area flooring, and all general commercial areas are safe and free from all hazards (or potential hazards) to the hotel/restaurant/bar guests, visitors and associates at all times.
  • Perform other duties as required by the Food & Beverage Manager or the hotel General

Manager (GM).

Primary Functions:

  • Revenue: o Financial: Aggressively pursue the hotel food &/or beverage revenue goals and effectively utilize effective revenue maximization tools. Constantly seek new ways to increase revenues and guest covers. o Rates: Aggressively and effectively pursue the sales strategy approved and assigned by the F&B Manager. o Sales & Marketing: Work closely with the sales team and capitalize on all revenue opportunities. Unless a dedicated sales manager is on staff, the sales team shall consist of the General Manager and the F&B Manager. In such event, work together with the F&B Manager on preparing daily for group/meeting bookings and contracts, sales calls and any other activities that will generate revenue for the property.
  • Profit:

o Support the effective control of all food & beverage and operational expenses including labor, overtime, supplies etc., and seek and help implement cost saving strategies.

  • Quality: o Guest Service: Ensure that the F&B facilities meet/exceed PSH and Brand standards for guest satisfaction. o Safety: Ensure that the hotel and the F&B facilities meet/exceed PSH and Brand safety standards for guests, visitors and associates.
  • Work Ethic: o Demonstrate a high level of integrity, take ownership of personal and team actions, communicate effectively, promote collaboration, nurture a positive, professional work environment, and adhere to PSH’s Standard Operating Procedures.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Send a daily end of the day activity and accomplishment email to the F&B Manager and a copy to the GM.
  • Be proficient on the use of the F&B POS system and be knowledgeable on the hotel property management system.
  • Have a good understanding of all hotel and F&B operating procedures.
  • Comply with all existing and new policies and procedures for the dining room, kitchen, bar and the hotel.
  • Continuously and constantly monitor the dining room and/or the bar and all public areas and ensure that all areas, equipment and facilities are safe and free from all hazards (or potential hazards) to hotel/F&B guests, visitors and associates.
  • Comply with appearance and demeanor requirements of the dining room and /or the bar and ensure that colleagues are following company policies.
  • Attend bi-weekly departmental meetings, and individual meetings as needed.
  • Perform delegated responsibilities and follow up on outstanding issues.
  • Be proficient on the use of all dining room and/or the bar equipment such as credit card machine, cash register, pos system and bar equipment.
  • Exhibit excellent guest relations and interpersonal skills.
  • Inform the F&B Manager or the GM of any unique situations, or unusual developments in the dining room and/or bar operations.
  • Handle guest complaints effectively.
  • Be willing and able to work any shift, including week ends and fill in when other associates are not able to work their scheduled shift.
  • Take and process reservations as appropriate.
  • Process reservations received from sales office and other hotel departments.
  • Have complete knowledge of the menus and offered menu and special items.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding and knowledge of brand standards and seasonal or other promotions and ensure compliance.
  • Process cancellations and modifications to reservations.
  • Ensure that adequate inventories of dining room and/or bar supplies are maintained and effectively controlled.
  • Promote goodwill by being courteous, friendly, and helpful to guests, managers and all other associates.
  • Maintain a collaborative relationship with the Facilities Manager to ensure that the dining and/or the bar are continuously and consistently maintained.
  • And any other duties as necessary and required by the company.
