Position Description

The City of Tolleson is seeking qualified individuals interested in joining our Parks and Recreation Department as an Recreation Program Specialist. The purpose of this position is to provide professional recreational programming for the City. This is accomplished by assisting in the planning, organizing, scheduling, directing, coordinating and supervising a wide variety of major recreation programs including: After School and Summer Recreation Programs, Community Events, Exercise and Adult Sports, Volunteer Programs, Youth Sports Programs, and other recreation related activities. Other duties include seeking and applying for program funding; planning, promoting, and presenting special events; competitions; related activities at parks and recreational facilities; and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED and Three (3) years of related experience in assigned area of responsibility; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. The ability to lead a recreation/afterschool program such as arts & crafts or sport activities. Responsible for developing and supervising recreation/out-of-school programming such as arts and crafts or games. Valid Arizona Class D Driver's License, valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card Level 1, and the ability to obtain First Aid and CPR certifications upon hire. Must be able to work evenings, outdoors and weekends.

Desired Experience

Associates Degree in recreation or like field and/or 4 years' experience in recreation programming. Candidate will have the ability to perform leadership recreation work in a lead capacity or in charge of a program area. The position serves in a lead capacity over part-time Recreation Aides and volunteers and works independently under the general supervision of a Recreation Coordinator or Director. Develops and plans activities in a specialized program area and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.

Physical Demands

Work environment is within the Tolleson Recreation Center with many events and programs in an outdoor setting. Must be willing to work occasionally in the extreme heat or cold. Recreation center may be loud at times and in a fast paced environment. May need to lift, exerting up to 50 lbs. and standing in long periods of times, bending, stooping and active movement working with the public.

Closing Date: December 28, 2022 Hiring Salary: $19.68 Hourly
