Salary Range: $16.95 - 24.69
Starting salary is determined based upon factors that may include: years of relevant experience, education, applicable certifications/licensure, and internal equity.
Basic Job Function and Responsibilities
To assist with selected patient care activities under the supervision of the RN; to transport the surgical patient pre- and post-operatively; to perform housekeeping tasks and messenger responsibilities in the Surgery Department.
Job Duties
- Cleans furniture, equipment and floors in the operating rooms between surgical procedures.
- Performs surgical skin preparation prior to OR admission, as ordered by the surgeon.
- Assists the RN and the Anesthesiologist with patient care during the pre- and intra-operative phase.
- Cleans nursing unit refrigerators as needed.
- Communicates appropriate information to the RN concerning patient care needs and presence of significant others.
- Demonstrates an understanding of sterile and non-sterile supplies and equipment.
- Identifies the surgical patient and reviews the patient record for required documentation.
- Provides coverage on-call for weekends, nights, and holidays to support emergency procedures. This includes checking the crash cart, obtaining case carts on call, communicating with other departments.
- Removes drapes and cubicle curtains for laundering and re-hang when laundered.
- Responds to routine patient comfort requests.
- Retrieve patient records for Anesthesiologist review, obtaining x-rays, delivering specimens, obtaining equipment and supplies from outside the department, obtaining non-controlled substances from Pharmacy, and so on.
- Returns clean case carts and supplies to CS. Assists OR staff with transport of dirty case carts and suction canisters to the dirty utility area. Sends dirty case carts to CS. Places dirty suction canisters in the Dornoc system for emptying and disinfection. Reassembles suction canisters for ready use following disinfection.
- Transports patient to and from the Operating Room.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
Education
- A high school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable - Required.
Experience
- 1 year of previous experience in the hospital, nursing home or related health care field - Preferred.
- Team oriented with good interpersonal and communication skills - Preferred.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize. Demonstrate initiative and commitment to meeting team and department needs - Preferred.
Certifications
- Current BLS Certification within 6 months of hire - Required.
