Medical Associates is seeking a full-time, Supervisor of Optical to oversee clinics in Dubuque, Galena, and Platteville!

The Optical Supervisor is responsible for planning, organizing and directing the overall operation and staffing of the Optical Department while also performing all major duties and responsibilities of the optician role.

Schedule: Core hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm working 40 hours per week.

Location: Medical Associates West Campus with offices at the Galena and Platteville satellite locations

Essential Duties:

• Perform all essential functions of Certified Optician, including but not limited to: interpreting prescription and helping patients choose appropriate eyewear, making necessary repairs using appropriate parts and tools, performing quality inspection of lens and frames, etc.
• Establish/maintain standards for laboratory quality control, inventory control, and equipment maintenance. Oversee contracts/purchasing of frames, lenses, and other retail items.
• Manage selection, training, development, performance evaluation, and performance issues for direct reports. Prepare schedule and assign work to assure adequate staffing levels to deliver a high level of customer/patient service. Facilitate development of policies, procedures, budget, and goals. Perform administrative duties, which may include but are not limited to, preparing annual budgets, attending meetings, collecting/compiling data and prepares reports.
• Apply marketing and merchandising principles in establishing pricing and sales goals applicable to optical retail store(s).
• Complete all other assigned projects and duties.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Experience: Three to five years of similar or related experience

Education: Equivalent to a two-year college degree or completion of a specialized course of study or certification. ABO certification required or willing to obtain within two years of hire.

Interpersonal Skills: Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization, generally regarding routine matters for purposes of giving or obtaining information that may require some discussion.
