Sarasota County Government has an excellent opportunity to be an Operations Supervisor for Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources. In this position you will plan, organize, and oversee resource management operations on over 50,000 acres of county owned natural areas and trails. • Supervise a work team or teams and is responsible for work schedules, training, performance, team goals, coaching and counseling and assisting higher level management
• Supervise daily activities of staff, direct work assignments, provide input and help manage work unit budget.
• Prepare and present activity reports and technical information to internal/external groups.
• Participate in hiring process, conduct performance reviews, handle employee relations issues.
• Provide operational assistance to implement land management plans on county managed natural areas.
• Perform field inspections and prepare survey/monitoring reports of findings for submission.
• Coordinate with contractors on projects including exotic removal, mechanical treatment, construction, vegetation, and species monitoring, etc.
• Serve as liaison with other land management agencies to coordinate best management practices.
• Develop, lead & evaluate field operations for efficiencies and best management practices.
• Coordinate with Fire Mitigation Specialists to support prescribe fire activities.
• Develop procedures and manuals, and ensures compliance to county guidelines, policies, and procedures.
• Prepare a variety of periodic, special, or financial reports related to assigned parks, recreation/education programs, revenue, expenditures, and data collection.

Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

About You

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School diploma AND 4-years related experience
• - OR - Associate's degree AND 2 years of experience
• 1-year supervisory experience (lead worker or acting in a supervisory capacity may be counted)
• Valid Florida driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications:

• 3-5 years experience in land management activities including use of equipment for prescribed burning, exotic control, and habitat maintenance and restoration
• FL certified prescribed burner
• Certified NATA Natural Areas Manager
• Licensed Natural Areas Pesticide Applicator

Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.
