.Net Developer (with experience with actuarial data on the back end) Job at RSM Solutions Inc

RSM Solutions Inc Baton Rouge, LA 70816

Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Tom. If you have read my job descriptions before, you will know that I like to add a little humor to them from time to time....I will be doing that here as well. If you have never heard of me or are new to my job descriptions, welcome to the party.

My name is Tom. I am Partner & VP at RSM Solutions, Inc and I have been recruiting technical talent for 20 years (it was 20 in January) and been in the tech sector since the 1990s. I don't say this to 'gloat'...I say this because I am going to be far more focused on 'fit' than anything else...a fit for you and a fit for the client.

The hiring manager for this role is actually a very good friend of mine. He is the kind of guy that will want you to succeed and will openly welcome you to his team. In return, he asks for someone who is hungry to learn, humble and as a sense of humility. As you can probably tell, for this hiring manager, social fit is almost as important as the technical fit. What creates a good social fit? Well, I am glad you asked, here are some:

  • This firm has grown from about $45M in revenues a few years ago to $1.2B, so the ability to ebb and flow with project changes will be needed for success here.
  • For this role, you will be working with a team of 9 individuals (2 DevOps people, 1 Solution Architect, and 6 .net developers), so that ability to work well in a team with limited ego's and no drama will be important to success. If you are the kind of person that believes the entire world revolves around you, I am going to suggest you look elsewhere....perhaps contact the Kardashians, I hear they are hiring.
  • This is an environment where the hiring manager encourages people to share ideas in meetings...even if they are out there - he would rather have people share, and be comfortable failing, then someone who always plays it safe and doesn't participate.
  • This particular hiring manager has a very high 'hit rate'. By that, I mean that people usually stick around for a while. Due to this, he is seeking longevity in the roles you have held. If you have spent 5 months here, 9 months there and then another 6 months at another opportunity, he will probably take a pass. Everyone has a role that was, perhaps, a mistake in their background...so, if you do have a role that was rather short, that is ok...but if every role was short, then he will probably take a pass.

This is a permanent role. I can only work with US Citizens or Green Card Holders for this role. I cannot work with H1, OPT, EAD, or STEM Visa Holders. I can only work with candidates that are already in the US for this role.

We are going to need you to be within driving distance to one of these three locations:

  • Baton Rouge, Louisiana
  • Rosemount, Illinois
  • Cedar Rapids, Iowa

During the first few months of this opportunity, you will need to be onsite more than remote. As you learn their environment, then this role will gradually be more remote than onsite. However, we will still need you to be within driving distance to the three locations above as there will inevitably be time where you (and the three other team members you will be working most closely with) will need to be onsite for get togethers and important meetings.

Here is what we are seeking: The official 'title' of this role is "Digital Developer", but - under the covers - we are seeking a .net developer (C# and ASP.Net) with some experience in the Life Insurance or Annuities vertical. As those of you reading this that come from the Life Insurance arena know, Life Insurance and annuities are really their own animal and unlike manufacturing, government or even other insurance firms. So, that understanding, from a functional point of view, on how actuarial tables 'behave' and Life Insurance data 'behaves' will be important for this role. If, perhaps, you were an insurance analyst or insurance agent that magically decided to become a .net developer, that would actually be a good fit for this role. You will be working on finance based illustration engines (actuarial data), crunching those numbers and then displaying a result of that date through the C# and ASP.Net applications you will be building.

Part of your role will involve gathering requirements, documenting those requirements and genuinely being excited about delivering a positive result of your efforts. This also means that this team really craves honesty. If you can deliver something by x, y or z date, that is fantastic...but if you cannot, this team is far better off having you say 'I cannot do that by that time'. No one is going to be frustrated if you are honest with regard to what you can do and what you cannot.

In general (as you can see from the points above), you will design, code, test, and analyze software programs and applications. This includes researching, designing, documenting, and modifying software specifications throughout the production lifecycle. You will also assist other developers, analysts, designers, and project managers in conceptualizing and developing new software programs and applications.

From a technology perspective, we will be looking for ASP.Net, C#, jQuery, JavaScript HTML, CSS, Bootstrap and Angular experience. The ASP.Net and C# piece is going to be he most important part. The apps you produce will be both internal and external customer facing.

Here is what we are seeking in terms of experience:

  • 3 or more years of experience with ASP.Net, C#, jQuery, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Bootstrap, and Angular Framework. I am going to be far more interested in the depth and breath of that experience, however.
  • 2 or more years of experience with Restful APIs and Active Reports.
  • Experience in either the Life Insurance vertical or in the Annuities space.
  • Experience with TFS (source control).
  • Sql experience...this should include stored procedures, triggers, and fun stuff like that.
  • Any mobile development experience would be great to see.
