NACE Certified Coatings Inspector Job at Modjeski and Masters

Our New Orleans, LA office is looking to hiring a NACE Certified Coating Inspector with at least 5 years' experience in bridge related coating work.

Responsibilities

  • Organize a team and/or function as Team Leader for bridge coating inspection projects.
  • Perform QA field inspections and prepare inspection reports for coating projects for all types and sizes of highway and railroad bridges, including fixed bridges, such as suspension and cable-stayed bridges, trusses, girder and beam bridges and movable bridges.
  • Supervision of the preparation of coating plans and specifications.
  • Assist in review of contractors’ submittals for QC operations, worker qualifications, containment plans, health and safety plans, and paint sampling and testing plans.
  • Conduct coating condition assessments.


Working Conditions

  • Position requires a combination of both office and field duties and potential weekend and overtime work.
  • Temporary relocation required for some bridge coating inspection projects, occurring throughout the United States and Canada and occasional travel and overnight stays for other coating related inspections or assessments.
  • Position involves working conditions such climbing on superstructures and substructures of bridges, working at heights, and being exposed to weather conditions.
  • Work around potentially hazardous materials, requiring wearing of respiratory protection.

Education and License Requirements

  • High School Diploma minimum, and an associate degree in Construction Management or B.S. degree from an ABET Accredited College or University is preferred.
  • A minimum of NACE Level 3 Coating Inspection (CIP-Level 3) or SSPC Protective Coating Specialist (PCS) certification credentials
  • Successful completion of SSPC C-3 “Lead Paint Removal”, and successful completion of SSPC C-5 “Lead Paint Removal Refresher” within the last two (2) years is preferred.
  • Must be able to pass a security background check for e-RAILSAFE and TWIC.
  • A NACE Level 2 will be considered pending ability and/or availability to acquire NACE level 3 within 6 months of employment.


Skills and Abilities

  • Physically capable of climbing ladders and stairways, carrying large gear bags/equipment as necessary, working on walkways and platforms at high elevations, such as on high bridge superstructures during inspections, working from aerial access equipment.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and foster partnership relationship between the owner and the contractor on bridge coating projects.
  • Have good command of the English language with good oral and written communication skills and computer software skills.
