Mortgage Credit Analyst Job at Carlyle Financial
***UPDATE NOV 16: Candidates must complete both assessment tests plus the phone interview portion of the application in order to be considered for the role.***
Carlyle Financial is seeking a Mortgage Credit Analyst to join as a critical contributor to our operations team. We are leaders in the jumbo and super-jumbo mortgage marketplace and typically see an average loan amount of $2M+, including several loan files over $10M this year.
As we serve our clients in markets across California and grow our footprint into 10+ states in 2023, we take pride in offering an individualized approach to better understand our client's financial picture. Regardless of our client's industry, we prioritize understanding their personal goals — including everyone from entrepreneurs and entertainment industry professionals to athletes, the tech community, and many more.
Job Summary
The Mortgage Credit Analyst is tasked with reviewing Jumbo loan applications in their early stages following intake and prior to official loan submission to the lender, including pre-qualification and pre-approvals. The Analyst will evaluate income, asset, and credit documentation to determine whether the application meets lending program guidelines and whether the borrower has adequate financial resources to close upon the transaction specified in the loan application. Upon successful completion of the review, you will work with the processor to package jumbo loan applications in accordance with investor guidelines.
It is expected that the Analyst will review between 30-40 applications each month.
A key deliverable required from the Mortgage Credit Analyst is the creation of a written credit memo explaining in detail the strengths, weaknesses, and compensating factors for each loan package, including any exception requests or "outside the box" information that needs to be conveyed to the lender, as a rationale for why the file is worthy of lender consideration.
Responsibilities
- Creation of the credit memo
- Expert-level analysis of loan documentation involving cash flow for self-employed borrowers, asset review and depletion/utilization calculations, and analyzing personal & business tax returns, including residential & commercial rental real estate).
- Verify that application data is complete and meets lender standards according to the desired loan product and borrower profile.
- Keeps abreast of changes in published guidelines, policies and procedures, standards and regulations applicable to the company and the mortgage industry. Understands and applies local, state and federal regulations
- Take ownership of problems and present creative solutions while completing tasks promptly and accurately.
Qualifications
- Recent underwriting experience with QM & Non-QM Jumbo loan products preferred.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and communication skills — verbal and written, capable of expressing complex issues and soliciting input from a broad audience.
- Knowledge of current industry regulations (ATR, Appendix Q, etc.)
- Experience with evaluating and analyzing collateral in residential appraisal reports and gathering and compiling market data for rebuttals and reconsidering value requests.
Our hiring process will include multiple rounds of interviews (phone, Zoom video) with key team members and various assessment tests. We believe in building relationships with clients and our team, not solely closing transactions. We will look for this quality during our discussions and encourage your engagement as such.
