Position Summary and Purpose:Serves in a dyad leadership and management role, collaborating with the appropriate service line executive director to drive overall performance of the MHC PN in the respective service line or division as defined by Munson Healthcare. As medical lead, provides clinical direction for all services associated with the service lines. Works in collaboration with System Chief Medical Officer, President, Ambulatory Services and Value-Based Care, Chief Operating Officer, Physician Network, Chief Nursing Officer, Ambulatory Services, administrative and physician colleagues, hospital Chief Medical Officers and leaders, and other members of the leadership team as applicable to develop clinical priorities and promote standards best practice standards across the system aligned with the operating framework. Demonstrates leadership in communicating the organization's core mission, vision and values, true north and system strategies, MHC alignment framework. In collaboration with other members of the system and local leadership teams, is accountable for the overall success of the service line.
Scope: Serves as senior physician leader and member of MHC leadership team to provide visionary and strategic physician perspective on the direction of healthcare delivery for the following service lines: Audiology, Endocrinology, Infectious Disease, Nephrology, Neurology, Occupational Health, Pulmonary, Rheumatology, Sleep Medicine, Wound Care and Hyperbarics. Directs processes and initiatives among medical practices to ensure high quality, system clinical standards of care, continuity, efficiency and effectiveness of patient care consistent with regulatory requirements and recognized standards. Provides leadership for organizational initiatives optimizing patient experience and clinical performance. Actively involved in developing and implementing system-wide strategy for the service line.
Reports to: System Chief Medical Officer, Munson Healthcare, or delegate.
Job Requirements:
Education: Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Michigan. Board Certified in area of specialty or has equivalent qualifications in compliance with the medical staff credentialing process. Education in business, management, quality and safety science. Specifically, has had didactic exposure to theories, tools, and techniques of change management, physician performance management, the measurement and improvement of clinical care processes.
Experience:
At least three years administrative experience in a physician group setting and/or medical administration with knowledge of medical business practices, organization dynamics and a desire for greater influence in the building of an integrated physician network. Strong respected background in the practice of medicine, broadly recognized as a leader by relevant peers.

Active member of the MHC PN. Able to develop and foster positive collaborative relationship with other physicians, nurses, and other members of the health care team. Exemplary written and verbal communication skills. Able to mentor and educate physician staff. Independently mobile. Able to work effectively and efficiently under tight deadlines, high volumes and multiple interruptions. Engenders trust and credibility among colleagues through communication skills, leadership and transparency.
Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Education/Experience:
Coursework in medical management, quality improvement, safety science, data analysis, business administration, change management, negotiation and healthcare law. Fundamental knowledge of improvement tools such as Lean training.

Has Primary Leadership responsibility and accountability for the following across MHC PN:
Clinical Performance and Quality
1. Demonstrates a high level of skill, expertise and experience in ambulatory medical practice and patient care processes.
2. Has and uses a broad and deep knowledge base that is contemporary with the latest medical scientific evidence.
3. Leads by example in the development of an evidence-based multidisciplinary care approach.
4. Actively leads physician network quality improvement and cost management initiatives aligned with the clinically integrated network (CIN) goals and associated payer quality programs.
5. Manages the performance of clinical colleagues in MHC PN, ensuring:
a. the use of physician network approved evidence-based practice guidelines, pathways and protocols;
b. the successful implementation of initiatives focused on providing an exceptional experience of care for patients and their families;
c. the efficient use of all clinical resources including equipment, supplies and time,
d. the compliance with the ethical standards of the profession;
e. the adherence to all regulatory and legal directives and standards of accredited and regulatory bodies as well as recognized payers, and;
f. the implementation of approved safe care practices including care coordination and continuity.
Administrative Responsibilities
1. Actively involved in efforts to ensure the capture of all appropriate clinical care charges and the creation of supporting documentation.
2. Supports plans to reduce professional liability exposure within MHC PN, working with legal services and risk management, in partnership with network leadership.
3. Demonstrates effective conflict resolution skills.
4. Contributes to creation and implementation of system-wide policies for the physician network.
5. Provides input into privileging requirements for respective specialty.
6. Participates in budget development, monitoring, and response related to employed physician practices and other assigned contracted physician relationships. Review and make recommendations regarding existing and pending physician relationships including financial and clinical matters.
Leadership and Operational Excellence
1. In word and action, supports the mission, vision and goals of Munson Healthcare and its Physician Network. Adhere to and exemplify leadership values and behaviors, embracing and supporting the performance improvement philosophy of the organization.
2. Within the respective service line or division, leads work to achieve goals aligned with quality and safety of patient care, patient experience, financial success, and growth / program development initiatives.
3. Co-leads initiatives to optimize access and the experience of care for patients and their families.
4. Coaches, mentors, and educates other physicians, residents, fellows, nurses and staff towards effective implementation of action plans achieving targets and goals of the Network.
5. Actively participates in the Physician Network Governance Council assisting with establishing guiding principles for the Physician Network.
6. Ensures effective collaboration with administrative and physician leaders across the Network and Munson Healthcare.
7. Co-leads a physician performance management process that ensures individual physician productivity, clinical quality, positive patient perception, appropriate resource utilization, adherence to ethical and legal standards, appropriate relationships with colleagues and staff, and (as applicable) involvement in teaching and research activities. Coaches / counsels physicians failing to meet performance expectations and monitors performance improvement plans.
8. Engages in leadership development initiatives, including physician executive management education, quality and safety training.
9. Assists in long range strategic planning, marketing, special projects and programs.
10. Actively involved in the recruitment, development and retention efforts of physicians, in consultation with MHC and Physician Network leadership.
