Manager - Inbound - Stocking Job at AMERICAN WHOLESALE BOOK COMPANY

Reporting to the Inbound Senior Manager, the Inbound Manager provides leadership and direction for all receiving and stocking activities. Working collaboratively with cross-functional teams including, merchandising, finance, inventory control and warehouse operations to meet established business objectives. The Inbound manager is an important member of the AWBC leadership team.

Roles and Responsibilities

· Oversee the execution of all aspects of receiving stocking by providing effective leadership, planning, and achieving department Key Performance Indicators

· Plan, organize and monitor the receiving and stocking of all items received from suppliers

· Organize workflow to meet priorities, specifications and deadlines based on local operation and merchandising input

· Lead, manage, coach, and develop a team of inbound associates; provide daily communication

· Prioritize receiving of inbound freight from both domestic and international freight forwarders and carriers

· Create and maintain all receiving and stocking reports including inbound schedule – appointments plus details

· Leverages operational reports and data to ensure items are consistently located and distributed properly in warehouse

· Provide daily department performance metrics

· Maintains productive working relationships with all cross-functional areas, particularly Merchandising, Warehouse Operations, Inventory Control, and Finance

· Champions communication and continuous improvement and best practices with all levels of the organization

· Work collaboratively with Vendor Compliance Coordinator on receiving and compliance issues, ASN vendors and ASN opportunities, shortage claims, and product issues.

· Work collaboratively with Logistics Analyst on incoming freight imports and containers, hot titles, on sale date titles, merchant requests and needs, and shortage claims investigations.

· Recruit and select talent for the department in conjunction with HR

· Promotes safety culture within the department

· Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

Education and Experience

· High school diploma, associates or bachelor’s degree preferred.

· At least 5 years of related experience in a warehouse environment, including leadership experience

· A combination of education and experience will be considered.

Skills

· Ability to monitor and provide coaching on individual associate performance and department productivity

· Strategic thinker and planner, ability to critically evaluate work processes and develop solutions

· Strong analytical skills

  • Excellent organizational skills and be able to establish priorities and set high expectations

· High level of interpersonal skills to handle internal and external customers

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills

· Advanced computer skills with knowledge of MS Office, Excel, Outlook

· PIT Equipment certified or ability to become certified

· Experience with AS/400 systems preferred

Physical and Environmental Requirements

  • Sit at a computer or desk for extended periods of time
  • Stand for long periods of time, up to 4 continuous hours and up to 8 – 12 hours during a shift
  • Frequent walking through the department/building
  • Use hands/arms to operate required equipment and repetitive motion activities
  • Lift objects up to 50 pounds with or without assistance
  • Communicate using speech, sight, and sound with or without assistive device
  • Bend, stoop, or crouch while performing daily activities of the job
  • Operate power equipment
  • Effective verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to work in a noisy environment
  • Ability to work in an environment with fluctuating temperatures
