Major Gifts Officers Job at Gettysburg College

Gettysburg College Gettysburg, PA 17325

Founded in 1832, Gettysburg College has distinguished itself as a leader in residential liberal arts
education. The College is consistently ranked among the top 55 liberal arts colleges in the country and offers an intimate and collaborative learning environment with renowned faculty, unique research opportunities, and state-of-the-art facilities. Gettysburg’s campus sits adjacent to the Gettysburg National Military Park in Pennsylvania. Today, Gettysburg enrolls 2,400 undergraduate students from over 40 states and nearly 40 countries. With 224 full-time faculty, the College boasts a 10:1 student-to-faculty ratio and offers more than 65 academic programs. In March of 2022, the Board of Trustees approved Gettysburg’s new strategic plan, “ Living Our Promise,” with the goal to inspire students to lead lives of meaning, service, and consequence. The plan advances this essential work and marries the excellence of a rigorous liberal arts and sciences education with a student experience that intentionally integrates learning that occurs inside and outside of the classroom.
As Gettysburg College begins the foundational phase of our next comprehensive campaign, we are hiring for three (3) Major Gifts Officers (MGOs) who share our team values of self-motivation, adaptability, a bias to act, commitment to colleagues, planning, collaboration, and communication.
The division of College Advancement has a record of achieving engagement and fundraising success. In the last two years, our fundraising results have doubled and we are investing necessary resources to build on this significant momentum. Collaborating with Washburn & McGoldrick, our campaign counsel, we have strong internal and external support for our fundraising team and our comprehensive campaign.
The Major Gifts Officer (MGO) is a member of the leadership giving team within College Advancement. This 8-person team works closely with colleagues within the division and across campus –the vice president of college advancement, annual giving, gift planning, prospect research, alumni and parent relations, donor relations and stewardship, among others. The leadership giving team is responsible for the qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of prospects (alumni, parents, and friends). The MGO carries a portfolio of 125-150 assigned prospects who have the financial capacity to make major gifts of $100,000. Prospect solicitations focus on multi-year Gettysburg Fund commitments, major gifts, and planned gifts as part of an intentional blended-ask approach.
MGOs regularly travel within their assigned regions to meet with donors and prospects, support campus relationships, and devise and execute strategies for engagement, solicitation and stewardship.

College Advancement is committed to staff development and exploring opportunities for colleagues to pursue their professional goals. We value individual differences and strive to offer a work environment that fosters employee satisfaction and retention. Major Gifts Officers are eligible to request a hybrid or remote status in accordance with the College’s Remote and Hybrid Work Policy.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required. At least four years of successful experience in major gifts fundraising or the equivalent is strongly preferred. Other relevant relationship management, sales, recruiting, and fundraising experience will be considered. Experience with parent fundraising is desirable, as well as experience with gift planning and reunion giving. The preferred candidate will possess the ability to develop and implement effective cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies that result in matching the donors’ needs and interest with philanthropic opportunities for financial support at the College. The successful candidate will have a strong interest in promoting Gettysburg’s fundraising priorities through the development of excellent relationships with college leadership, campus partners, faculty, trustees, volunteers and the College Advancement team.

We seek candidates who have the communication skills and cross-cultural abilities to maximize their effectiveness with diverse groups of alumni, parents, students, colleagues, and community members. Organizational and time management skills are essential, as is the ability to work effectively both as part of a team and independently. Professional conduct and appropriate handling of confidential information is required. Must have a valid drivers license, as driving is an essential function of the position.
