A Maintenance Worker position is available with The City of Fort Worth's Transportation & Public Works Streets & Stormwater Operations Division. The department is seeking to hire a Maintenance Worker with a positive attitude and willingness to learn. The successful candidate will be required to work outdoors, during inclement weather, around moving traffic and equipment, in and around water and in overgrown vegetation
This is a full time, entry level position. As a member of the team, the ideal candidate will work four (4) ten-hour work days and will be subject to emergency call-back. Emergency call-back could be after hours, weekends, holidays and/or during weather events.
The Maintenance Worker job responsibilities include:
- Operating various hand & power tools (weed eaters, chainsaw, shovels, rakes, picks).
- Perform a variety of maintenance activities and other responsibilities in and around drainage easement areas.
- Perform construction and maintenance activities, such as concrete / asphalt work, on streets and roadways.
- Traffic control.
- Call back for emergencies and weather events.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid Texas Driver's License.
- Must pass drug screen, and physical.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in Streets or Stormwater maintenance operations.
- Experience and knowledge with hand / power tools.
Working Conditions
Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting; depending on assignment. Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, gases, vibrations, chemicals, oils and workspace restrictions.
Heavy Work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
Conditions of Employment
Candidates who do not meet the Education requirement, may be considered if they have more relevant work experience than the position requires. Those selected for employment will be required to pass Pre-Employment checks depending on the position requirements. Those could include, but are not limited to: criminal background check, drug screen, education verification, etc. Criminal convictions will be considered on a case by case basis.
