Job Title: NURSING HOME ADMINISTRATOR
Reports Regional Director of Operations
FLSA Status: Exempt
SUMMARY
The Skilled Nursing Home Administrator is responsible for the overall operation and management of the facility and shall coordinate all of the facilities operations. The Administrator is responsible for ensuring the facilities compliance with all state, federal, and local standards for nursing home operation. The Administrator is responsible for ensuring the assisted living program to be in compliance with all state regulations. The Administrator shall be responsible for maintaining good relations with the community and setting a positive atmosphere within the home. The Administrator shall represent the nursing home in outside activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FOLLOWING DUTIES WHICH ARE COMMON TO ALL DEPARTMENT HEADS:
Developing and implementing departmental budget
Maintaining secure internal financial and money handling controls
Maintaining proper documentation of departmental activities
Attending department head meetings
Attending governing committee meetings
Compliance with all State and Federal Laws, local ordinances, and all resolutions and policies enacted by the Governing Board
IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FOLLOWING DUTIES WHICH ARE SPECIFIC TO THE POSITION OF NURSING HOME ADMINISTRATOR TO MANAGE THE NURSING HOME AND ASSISTED LIVING PROGRAM.
Establishing and maintaining and where appropriate, recommending policies pertaining to resident care, personnel, medical staff, financial status, public relations, and maintenance of fixed assets.
Is responsible for communicating these policies to staff, residents, visitors, and the general public as is appropriate.
Reviews compliance with established policies.
Reviews policies and procedures on a regular basis and makes changes or recommendations for changes as necessary.
Assists subordinate supervisors in the development and review of policies and procedures for nursing home departments.
Communicates with nursing home staff on a regular basis to discuss problems and develop solutions.
Is responsible for the establishment of and assists staff in maintaining a homelike atmosphere in the facility.
Maintains a working relationship with area health care providers and coordinating services through working and transfer agreements.
Represents the nursing home in dealing with outside agencies including governmental and third party payers.
Authorizes purchases of fixed assets and supplies in accordance with the Company purchasing policies and the approval of the governing board.
Is responsible for development and maintenance of a financial reporting system capable of providing information to the governing board and management staff.
Is responsible for preparation of reports and/or contracting for the preparation of such cost analysis as is necessary for the determination of payer rates.
Is responsible for ensuring compliance with all conditions of participation requirements for Federal and State revenue sources.
Is subject to call in times of emergency or as needed to resolve problems.
Participates as a member of the management bargaining committee in collective bargaining negotiations.
Represents the Nursing Home as a member of regional, state, and federal nursing home organizations, and advocates for the needs of the home before the appropriate state and federal agencies, policy-making bodies, and legislative institutions.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Governing Board.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages subordinate supervisors who supervise employees in the Nursing, Social Services, Activities, Maintenance, Medical Records, Housekeeping, Laundry, and Dietary Departments. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Also directly supervises non-supervisory employees in the Nursing Home office. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university in Business Administration, Health Care, or related field; two years experience in the field of Nursing Home Administration or related field; completion of statutory education in the area of long-term care administration.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must hold and maintain a current license as a Nursing Home Administrator in the State of Minnesota.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must possess a thorough knowledge of personnel administration, federal and state regulations as they pertain to nursing home operation, relevant accounting and financial practices, applicable nursing, medical, and long term care practices, and the social, psychological, physical, mental, and emotional needs of the aged and disabled.
