Job Description Summary

The successful candidate for this role will join LM Component Design Team, which drives the blade design and structural integrity of blades globally. You will be part of a global and dynamic team focusing on design, analysis, test, and validation of components for wind turbine blades. Typical responsibilities cover a broad range of tasks, involving composite materials components from cradle to grave including stages such as conceptual design, component integration to factories and challenges in the field. You will develop design criteria and perform complex analysis using various methods using both analytical methods such as fracture mechanics, mechanical testing (coupon to full scale blade testing) and Finite Element Analysis. You will use your knowledge to establish raw-material requirements and in-production acceptance criteria. You will also be facing technical challenges from the field and be driving root cause investigations.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Research and develop component level mechanical solutions to meet product and service needs.
  • Create, evaluate and implement mechanical models to predict loads, calculate and optimize margins and guide concept/product development.
  • Execute mechanical technology programs that improve safety, quality, productivity, and cycle using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements.
  • Develop and execute mechanical testing experiments.
  • Document and report analysis and test results.
  • Participate in technical and program reviews.
  • Prepare invention disclosures to protect technology that gives the business a competitive advantage, as well as protecting the intellectual property rights of the company.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in mechanical, civil, or aerospace or equivalent engineering discipline
  • Minimum 3 years experience with the Design, Manufacturing, and/or Failure Assessment of Composites.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Possess unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.
  • Hands-on composites manufacturing and testing experience
  • MS/PhD in mechanical, aerospace or equivalent engineering discipline
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Prior experience with CAD and FEA packages (CATIA, ANSYS, ABAQUS…etc)
  • Advanced engineering analysis skills (stress analysis, fatigue…etc.)
  • Oral and written communication skills (proposals, test plans, reports, presentations).
