Rear Load Laborer Technician primarily works/rides upon the rear of the industrial trash vehicle while providing prompt, courteous, and complete waste removal services for customers on designated routes. The Helper is responsible for safely loading waste and poly carts and carrying bags and containers to the vehicle for disposal. This Helper also assists the Driver in maneuvering their vehicle by directing the Driver from the ground. In addition, the Helper helps maintain the cleanliness of the vehicle, residential route, and work areas. Daily functions include waist-high lifting, gripping with hands, moving at a brisk consistent pace, and occasional bending.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Ability to report to duty on time (5:15 am)
• A typical schedule for this position is Monday-Friday, with an occasional Saturday needed or as a result of sliding holidays or weather
• Conduct a Helper Inspection of the vehicle and communicate any equipment damages to Driver

Ride on the rear sides of the vehicle to assist the Driver while servicing residential customers on a designated route
Climb on and off the vehicle to load refuse, waste, and poly carts; lift and carry trash bags and containers to the truck for disposal

Operate packing mechanism and various levers and handles to activate the lifting and loading mechanism
Assist Driver in safely operating the vehicle by directing the Driver from the ground
Clean waste from the packer blade and truck body on each disposal trip; spray and clean the hopper and truck

Supports Driver with the pre-and post-operation inspection of the vehicle in accordance with Company policy; report any safety issues on standard reports
Courteously interact with all customers, dispatchers, and others daily to ensure all customer routes are serviced in a timely and professional manner
Continuously monitor waste for evidence of unacceptable waste
Clean incidental accidental waste spills, ensuring adherence to all applicable safety standards and policies
Maintain adherence to required productivity standards for the department to ensure all customers are serviced in a timely and efficient manner
Follow all required safety policies and procedures

Perform other job-related duties as assigned

• Must be able to fully and clearly communicate with Driver, Supervisory Management, and government officials if/as required
• Must be able to follow Supervisor & Driver dispatching directives to support other area routes in case of volume overages, equipment breakdowns, etc.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:

• Requires physical fitness w/ability to get on/off the vehicle using preventive safety practices
• Ability to lift, push, or pull required containers or objects over 50 pounds
• Must be able to work at paced speed and within inclement weather, including hot/cold, wet, and/or humid conditions, as well as exposure to fumes and normal vehicle vibration

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Residential Waste Industry knowledge [preferred but not required]
• Able to pass a fit-for-duty exam
• Must be able to communicate in English with drivers and customers as needed
• Minimum 1-year of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified
• Experience working around heavy equipment with w/basic knowledge of truck components and hydraulic mechanisms to safely conduct job functions
