The Laboratory Technician is an integral part of the Curia team, contributing to our success by performing operations which aid in maximizing the research productivity of the laboratory staff. Day-to-day functions include cleaning chemistry glassware, laboratory and supply areas, as well as maintaining and updating the chemical inventory.

Supervisory responsibilities
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Essential job duties
1. Maintain the Laboratory in compliance with appropriate Standard Operating Procedures
2. Assist scientists with operations involving some technical manipulations, if appropriate
3. Maintain/update chemical inventory
4. Maintain the laboratory equipment in a clean, organized and orderly manner. Wash, clean, dry, and put away all laboratory glassware in pre-assigned locations as directed by the scientific staff
5. Keep laboratory clean and organized, with particular emphasis to visits from customers and other guests. Keep sink area and personal workspace clean and organized
6. Wipe down lab benches, lab surfaces, and lab shelving, sweep and mop lab floors in accordance with a maintenance schedule, appropriate SOPs, and on an as needed basis
7. Maintain stock of sterilized labware in designated cabinets
8. Refill solvent bottles, prepare aqueous and solvent solutions as needed or requested
9. Prepare and crush empty solvent containers as needed following established procedures and safety protocol
10. Stock materials and supplies in supply and storage areas, and keep those areas organized and clean
11. Maintain a professional demeanor
12. Conduct laboratory operations in a safe and responsible manner. Maintain familiarity with the Chemical Hygiene Plan. Exhibit safety awareness and safe work practices
13. Follow responsible actions regarding chemical disposal. Maintain compliance with all regulations at the federal, state, and local levels
14. Participate in self-development activities and training of others
15. Perform other related duties as may be reasonably assigned in the course of business
Education, experience, certification and licensures
Required
  • High school education or equivalent
  • Minimum 0-1 years’ experience in a laboratory
Preferred
  • Associate’s degree in Science

4. Ability to be proactive
5. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
6. Ability to write simple correspondence

8. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
9. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Incumbent must be able to obtain/qualify for and maintain the clearance to wear a respirator at a “class B” level or above following OSHA mandated guidelines.
