In this role you will be responsible for managing daily operations of the laboratories, play a vital role in overall safety, and take responsibility for all aspects of the lab. Responsibilities
These may include but are not limited to:
- Management of existing Lab Operations systems and processes to maximize lab productivity and organization within the Process Development labs. This includes maintenance of the cell and plasmid repository, administration of the lab equipment super user program, equipment usage training program, organizing monthly/quarterly lab cleanings, and coordinating monthly/periodic mycoplasma testing of culture samples.
- Develop an equipment management program to track, schedule and manage lab equipment preventative and routine maintenance, service contracts, repairs, returns, certifications, and calibrations
- Meet with representatives of Poseida’s research teams weekly to determine individual research group’s needs. Coordinate between various research groups to identify common problems, work to troubleshoot and find efficient solutions that work for all the different groups
- Triage and respond to researchers’ requests for assistance that come in through the Lab Operations online help desk ticket system in a timely fashion
- Keep abreast with latest research progress by attending lab meetings, use the information gathered to proactively devise lab operations strategies to ensure maximum R&D productivity
- Work closely with researchers to learn about their future lab equipment/CRO requirements, market survey for options, engage with vendors to collect technical data on equipment/CRO options available, schedule and coordinate demos as needed before instruments are ordered. Once purchased, coordinate delivery, installation, end-user training and set up of new lab equipment.
- Assist in collecting, standardizing, and compiling protocols commonly used in Poseida’s research labs into a formal library database that is available for internal reference
- Assist in creating a new hire training program to impart basic molecular and cell biology skills to new hires
- Onboard new lab personnel. This included assignment and oversight of execution of lab maintenance tasks/responsibilities by researchers ensuring continuity of operations
- Create budgets/forecasts for future lab operations related tasks, design new lab spaces to accommodate Poseida’s expanding research team as needed, obtain approval of design and coordinate lab buildouts and equipment installation to begin new lab operations per timeline
- Oversee lab safety compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, communicate and enforce lab safety rules to researchers, conduct lab walk-throughs/safety inspections, procure, and provide required PPE to all researchers, assist with formulation and enforcement of lab safety policies in collaboration with the facilities/EHS department
- Coordinate with hazardous waste disposal service provider to schedule weekly pickups, manage lab waste streams and maintain waste shipment records in accordance with DOT regulations in collaboration with the facilities/EHS department
- Manage and update chemical inventory, lab safety plan and SDS directory in collaboration with the facilities/EHS department
- Collaborate with facilities/EHS to establish a company-wide safety committee, emergency response team, spill response team, equipment alarm response protocols and call-lists
Requirements: Requirements, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree 5 plus years’ experience in the field of cell biology, molecular biology, immunology, biochemistry or related scientific field and a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a lab management role (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered)
- Strong background in cell and molecular biology techniques is preferred, such as cell culture and transfection, flow cytometry, fluorescence imaging, molecular cloning, gene delivery methods, PCR, qRT-PCR, and protein analysis methods. Experience working with small molecule/nanoparticle chemical synthesis is a plus
- Possess strong attention to detail, well-developed verbal/written communication, interpersonal, time management, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently as well as in a cross-functional team environment
- Demonstrated track record of multi-tasking efficiently in a dynamic and fast-paced environment while maintaining composure and productivity
- Hazardous Waste Management and Hazmat Ground Shipper Certification (DOT) a plus
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, writing and communication skills
